Today is Blue Monday, no? To me, that totally explains this thread. Lotsa hatred and whatnot. Someone needs to start up a "everybody must get stoned and chill out for a minute" thread... Was it Bubbler who did it last time? I wonder if his guy is still in the business... I can bring over my Cypress Hill and Sublime cds if somebody else can bring the Floyd and a pizza.

    No onions!

I was always curious about whether the NCAA grants medical red-shirts for that sort of thing. And if there's a form to fill out. And if on supposed form, the young man actually described the injury or simply put "Too lame to say."

Something I forgot to add: It was later concluded the boil was the result of an infection that stemmed from, yes, not wiping properly. I'm super-stoked to learn I own a degree from someplace that admits people who can't wipe their own asses.

Maybe I shouldn't be surprised by now, but I was still flabbergasted that a thread on two black coaches making the Super Bowl presented JDV with an opportunity to give us his Jerry Maguire-esque mission statement on how he is going to add Sports Uber Agent to his already legendary resume, whatever.

Nobody cares about you, your resume, your future business plans, past business deals, who else in your class was as smart as you or how you plan to wash your underwear (which I assume is as clean as your favorite athlete), whatever.

If you want to make a point, drop all the self promotion and keep the word count somewhere below 10,000. Christ, if you and Bill Simmons ever had an internet chat it would probably crash every server on the planet.

In a sport that is dominated by black people, shouldn't there be more blacks in power?
Again, I want to bring up the racial segregation thing. Before 1970(I think it was around that time), you were only allowed to have up to 10 black people on one team. Between 1934-1946, you couldn't have blacks AT ALL. You weren't allowed to have an odd number of blacks on a team because then that would force(god forbid ::)) a black man to room with a white man.

Chuck, that's a straw dog that is often thrown up there.

Doesn't mean a damn thing today.

Should things have been different then? Sure they should.

Does that mean that blacks should get unusual consideration today? No. That is called white liberal guilt, and homey don't play that game.

It should because they're first EVER black coaches to be in the Super Bowl. And it's not "unusual" consideration. It's deserved consideration. With all the history that the league has gone through and with the low number of black coaches in the league today, this is news which makes it a beautiful thing.
I didn't even mention the fact that both came on the SAME DAY.

They ARE deserving. And it's been recorded. That's cool.

Don't need to be knocked over the head with it for the next two weeks at the expense of all other storylines, but I can handle that, too.

Just please, don't tell me that everyone is to hand over the keys to the vault, no questions asked, just because the previous generation had racist tendencies.

I would have stayed in the same motel room as a black man in 1945. Why would you want to make me pay for the misdeeds of my forefathers, unless this is a matter of getting even?

Remember, now, you're getting back to the milder end of your argument here. A few pages back, we were talking about how the NFL needs two black starting quarterbacks in the Super Bowl. See how it can get out of hand?

Oh, I'm not saying that it should take out all the other storylines. But it shouldn't be ignored. That's were I'm trying to get at.

OK. Just remember something that Mike Tomlin said today:

"I acknowlege that it is significant, but I'm just happy for those men because I know them personally. They've been very supportive and active in my development as a coach and as a man. So, I'm happy for them ... but, we'll make true advances in this process when (color) is no longer an issue.''

So. The longer it's an issue that these are two men of color, the longer we won't truly achieve equality.

True, and he's got a point. But that's not going to stop people(especially black people) from being happy because of it.

A strong communicator can incorporate detail and nuance while keeping brevity in mind as well. It isn't that we can't read something long. It's that you meander sometimes. And everybody on this board draws the smart-ass comments. And there is nothing wrong with them. Just cringe or grin about it and move on.

And I saw a post lower down that has some merit. The self-promotion does turn people off. I get the same crap for writing about the Steelers too much on this board. But even in that case, there are some people interested. Outside of you and RokSki,nobody here really cares about your big plans.
