USC FTW since day one. I turned the game off after the third quarter. When did Carroll put in the backups?

Here's what I just turned in to Slappy.

    1. USC
    2. Florida
    3. Oklahoma
    4. Missouri
    5. Georgia
    6. LSU
    7. Texas
    8. Wisconsin
    9. South Florida
    10. East Carolina
    11. Auburn
    12. Oregon
    13. Utah
    14. Alabama
    15. Penn State
    16. BYU
    17. Illinois
    18. Texas Tech
    19. Kansas
    20. Ohio State
    21. Wake Forest
    22. West Virginia
    23. Nebraska
    24. Arizona State
    25. Fresno State

    Welcome: No. 23 Nebraska
See ya bitch: No. 23 Tennessee
    Last team out: TCU

Simmering: (no particular order) Virginia Tech, Tulsa, Oklahoma State, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Central Florida, Maryland, TCU, Air Force, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, South Carolina, Kansas State, and yes, Ball State.

"Leapfrogged": (winning teams that leapfrogged other winning teams from the previous week's poll) Oklahoma leapfrogged Missouri and Georgia. South Florida leapfrogged several schools. East Carolina leapfrogged Auburn. Alabama and Penn State leapfrogged Illinois and Texas Tech. BYU leapfrogged Illinois, Texas Tech, Wake Forest, West Virginia. Wake Forest leapfrogged West Virginia.

BYH Memorial Fraud Alert: I fully expect to drop West-by-God next week after they get dumped at Colorado. Then there's the ever-present fradulence of Alabama and Texas Tech, who will soon live down it.

Random Former Football-Playing School: Ohio State Tampa

No diss on you intended, Bubbler ... just thoughts about jumping teams in general -- and I plan to jump USC to No. 1.

That said, ECU jumps for you even though the booty snatchers barely beat Tulane, yet Auburn drops because it barely beat Mississippi State.

Oklahoma and Mizzou smashed the equivalent of a bucket of chicken and Okie jumps Mizzou.

Just wondering what the thought process is for things like that.

Everyone has a different logic, Songbird.

At this early point in the season, the contenders are still being shaken out. So I seldom drop a team for winning at this point, since it will be a couple of weeks before we really figure out who is really good, or who had a good/bad day. Others move teams around because certain wins are indeed more impressive than others. Either way, everthing works out over the course of a long season, as we all know.

I will say this about my poll this week: UCLA is No. 117.

How dare you question my poll! No problem, Xan.

A win is a win in the grand objective scheme of things, but not in the subjective scheme of polls.

Much of it is based on results. Some of it is based on where I think the teams really are as opposed to where they are at this stage of the season, and I'm not going to lie, some of it is based on hunches.

I suspected Oklahoma might be better than Missouri all along, but I wanted a sampling of a few games to believe it.

Auburn won totally unconvincingly and gets knocked down a notch or two. How do you run a spread offense and only score three against Mississippi State, a decent team, but a team they should take care of?

If Auburn had won 24-3, I would not have dropped them, but despite ECU's close shave against the Green Wave, ECU's accomplishments are more impressive than Auburn's at present, so I bumped them despite my misgivings as to whether ECU is going to end up being a legit top 10 or not.
