Remember, a lot of the problem with bringing in the big guys had to do with their WCW contracts. It wasn't an arbitrary decision to not bring in the big stars; when they bought WCW, they only bought the lower-paying contracts as well, so they only had to shell out $3 million for the whole thing. To add a Flair, Hogan, Goldberg or Sting at that point would require a) picking up a hefty contract or b) hoping the wrestler in question would leave the contract and sign with the WWF, and none of the bigger names, except DDP, were willing to turn down easy money (since they were actually contracted to AOL/Time Warner and not WCW at that point).

I think I read somewhere that guys like Sting and Goldberg didn't compete in the WWF because they'd lose money with a new contract. I can't remember where I saw that, though.

You and Mystery Meat are correct. To get any of those guys, the WWE would have had to negotiate with AOL/Time Warner, who owned the contracts, which were for obscene values, IIRC, because WCW just burned through money. It would be kind of like if the NFL just started giving out NBA or MLB style contracts; the NFL has no interest in importing those kind of deals.

What did you guys think of my bookings?

I really like your angle Baron.

I did read somewhere, though, that WWE could have cherry-picked a few contracts that would have enhanced the Invasion angle and not broken the budget. Not the huge ones like Hogan or Sting, or the ones that might've caused trouble like Nash and Hall, but two or three other top guys like Flair and Goldberg. WWE could've spent a few million more to buy WCW and some of its contracts and made 10 times that on the Invasion angle.

Love the Invasion jack, but I'm gonna mention something current for a sec.

Anyone else envision a nightmare scenario from SD where Kane wins the MITB, Swagger beats Rey and Kane cashes in? Also, what's to keep Nexus from beating down someone in MITB, then the 'anonymous' GM giving Barrett the 8th spot?

As the RAW match stands right now, I think Miz or DiBiase takes it, but Bourne steals the show with something unreal that nearly kills either himself or an opponent.

And Kane wins what was a hellacious first MITB match.

Kane actually deserves a title reign since all he's had is that one-day reign back in '98.

But damn I really didn't want him to win that match.

It was a helluva match, with a lot of nice bumps.

Glad the Harts retained, but it would have been nice to see the Usos get a title run.

The rub that Kane has gotten off of 'Taker over the years is amazing. Kane has been a solid performer in his own right, but after well over a decade as Kane, his career has been rejuvenated by a fluke injury to 'Taker.
