Season started this morning in Japan where the Oakland A's are taking on the Seattle Mariners.

    The game is tied 1-1.

    He's batting fifth and he's 0-4.

Nice starts by Felix Hernandez and Brandon McCarthy. Had to figure as much with two bad lineups combined with the fact that pitchers are typically ahead of the hitters at this time of year, or so the cliche goes. Not sure if that's borne out by the evidence.

Yeonnis Cespedes gets the Opening Day start in center for Oakland. A bit of a surprise. Thought he would get some minor-league seasoning.

Well, Dick, perhaps its evidence that jet-lagged pitchers are ahead of jet-lagged hitters at this time of year.

The least-noticed first game in MLB history? I'm guessing so.

Way to build off a great post-season, Bud.

Yeah, I mean, I hate the NFL opening day concerts and red carpet type bullshit, but at least it kicks off the season with a bang and gets everyone excited.

A 5 a.m. Eastern Time game between the A's and Mariners doesn't exactly scream "Are you ready for some baseball?"

Was this just not promoted at all? Or do I live under a rock? I didn't even know it was happening until last night.

Agreed. It is a terrible idea and it wasn't promoted nearly enough. I couldn't even find the damn game on TV until the replay later in the morning. Sorry, MLB, I'm not interested in watching a regular-season game on tape delay. What do you think this is, the '80s?

Ichiro went 4-for-5. The man likes a big stage ...
