Supposedly he maxed out all the benefits of that place Driveline that was detailed in Passan's book "The Arm" (which could be why Passan had the scoop). There's a feeling that his velocity is back to the range from when he was an elite pitcher. It does make some sense to go back to that history then.

Plus we're in the "best shape of his life" time of year. Be an optimist!

They probably don’t want to sign him because last year was an aberration.

Are you Mark Shapiro? Did you force me to watch Trot Nixon try to play right field, Joe Borowski close games with a 6 ERA and Derek Lowe throw batting practice in games for an entire summer?

That's a helluva chance to take.
Last year, you had Cain, Hosmer, and Moose.
And you could lose all 3 in the span of 90 days, and you get nothing out of it.

It's almost as if the smaller markets have shorter windows in which they can keep a strong team together. :)

Ehh, he was an iconic pitcher for a few years. His accomplishments buy him a little more breathless reportage of his contract negotiations. And I'd be very surprised if he plays any sort of vital role for the Rangers this season. It's a long way from throwing 93 in a workout to pitching meaningful late innings.

Matt Bush saved 11 games for the Rangers after being rediscovered throwing in a parking lot.

    Over/under 11 saves for Lincecum?

And Lincecum didn't drunkenly almost kill a man.

Texas gave Bush his 19th chance and had Josh Lueke, a rapist, in its organization. Nice team.

Under. Way under. Bush at least throws in the high-90s with an arm that had little to no mileage (other than Tommy John surgery). Lincecum hasn't been any good since 2011. He'd be a comeback story for all-time.
