    Nolan Ryan was a freak of nature. That curveball should have gorked his elbow at some point but never did. Fuck, he's in his 70s and still hitting 80 on the gun, I think I saw. There might never be another pitcher like Ryan.

    Sometimes an old remembers stuff. In his early days with the Mets and then Angels, it was a common thought around baseball that Ryan would never last, and his blisters (a real if minor problem) were the horsehide equivalent of Joe Namath's knees in the New York press.
