Considering he'll make $32 mil each of the next two years, the Tigers will roll him out there in a wheelchair in the quest for 3,000.

He's actually played quite a bit the last two years despite sucking. He missed 26 games in 2019 and only three last year. He's missed 22 this season.

Very good chance of the 500th homer this year and 3000th hit early next year if he continues playing every day.

On any other team, batting Miggy third or fourth every night would be asinine. But Nomar Mazara would also be selling insurance by now, if not for Al Avila's obsessiveness to never admit to his bad decisions, cut his losses and move on (see Jones, Jacoby and Stewart, Christian). He honestly believes he's smart enough to keep finding more J.D. Martinezes off the scrap pile.

Other than Grossman, Schoop and Baddoo, the rest of the offense is still a mess. Miggy's not really blocking Torkelson this season, and .250 with a dozen homers after his horrible start would be adequate. But he's merely an even slower, more strikeout-prone ghost of a Hall of Fame player. At least Al Kaline got to 3,006 without having to embarrass himself one more season.

    How'd the Athletic cover it?

    Mazara should be gone soon
I hope they deal Grossman and go with an outfield of Baddoo, Hill and Daz
    Defensively that’s their best OF
Let’s see what Hill can do with the bat
I think Baddoo and Daz are up for good

Agreed. Tork, Greene and Dingler are the next wave, probably not until 2023. So one more season of suckage.

Don’t be surprised if Tork and Greene come up during 2022

Actually, they finally filled the Angels beat writer position this week, hiring Sam Blum. He's got a story in there on the game.

I saw the post saying Blum filled it hence the question to give Chris a chuckle, or something.

    Don't forget Elliott Maddox.

There are also a bunch of Cox's. Bobby Cox and Danny Cox are two of them.

His first since the autobiography on Monday. Helluva game to cover.
