I guess I'm not message-board hip, but what exactly does DB stand for?

deep_background, a poster now gone (I think and hope) who was famous for posting news two days late.

So it has become an SportsJournalists.com thing when somebody posts something already up to say he/she has "d_b'ed" the topic.

Somebody should write an SJ style guide. I nominate Bubbler.

Alas, then we'd never use that shit again. Sorry Bub.

Two days!  If he had only been two days late than things might have worked out but he would bring things up that were a week or two old and of course, considering how nice and polite the membership of the board is, more than one poster would quietly mention the tardiness.

    Buck,

Though it's not as bad as a db, that small type drives me crazy.
I have no idea what you said, so  if you made a joke I missed it and so did everyone else.

And yes, that's a db. IJAG made that same point in our IJAG kind of way just the other day.  She was dead on.

    Now THAT I could read!

You da man. You know I wasn't jumping you personally. It's just the whole small type thing.

Seriously Moddy, we ought to consider a standing style guide thread. I was confused by the whole D_B thing early on, and I didn't know what NIAFL meant for a while, too. IIRC, I still have problems with that one. And it's not like I'm some inactive newbie. I'm just not always in the know.

Well, some of these are SJ specials like d_b

IIRC, I believe, is "if I recall correctly" and is a 'net universal.

    STFU is another SJ special.
