The Orange County Register is looking for an experienced, talented college football and basketball reporter to cover UCLA. We want someone who understands the stories readers want are about more than the games and practices. They are about the personalities, the breaking news, the trends and the pressing issues surrounding the team that can be explored with in-depth reporting and delivered with excellent writing. And, yes, we still want strong gamers, notebooks, blog posts, coverage of non-revenue sports and, of course, recruiting news. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience on a sports beat covering a college or professional team, including a history of enterprise reporting. Knowledge of the Pac-12 and sources within the conference are a plus. We hope to move quickly on this position because the season is underway, but we want the right candidate, not just the most convenient one. The position pays a competitive salary and includes a comprehensive benefits package.

Please send your resume and 10 writing samples (including a mix of enterprise, features, gamers and analysis) by Sept. 10 to Register colleges editor David Bean at dbean@ocregister.com. Please no phone calls.

Note: If you already applied for our baseball writer position and want to be considered for this as well, you are welcome to email tharmonson@ocregister.com and ask that your resume and clips be forwarded for the colleges position.
