A Little Resume Help

    Here's a question for you guys. Let's say you're trying to sell yourself as the "all-in-one" package and going for a writing gig. Would you also submit clips of, let's say your photography and/or layouts as well? Can't hurt right?

    If so, how would you package them together? I haven't had to send out a resume in three years or so and don't plan on doing one any time soon but I've been thinking about updating mine because, well, I'm in journalism.

    I've applied for "reporter/photographer" positions and you have to have a thick portfolio. But there's a difference between resume and portfolio. You can still have a two-page resume and then in a case where you're applying for "an-in-one gig" you'll have to have at least three clips, three photos and three examples of page layout. You can't avoid that.

    I would get rid of the profile. Everyone know you want a job and the other portions will tell me what skills you have. Get rid of generic audio, web, print production in the technical skills area. The software should speak for itself. I would move up tech skills above education since you don't have a degree.

    I don't know what type of job you are looking for, but were any of these jobs full-time gigs since there is a lot of overlap.

    Some places you may just submit a resume electronically and it searches for keywords and whatnot and would keep you or reject you on the spot.

    Anyone got any tips or trickets for Texas and others about to get the correct info on your resume and get through at least the first round of rejections?

    I sure don't.
