Hmmmmm....maybe the NHL should be back in the Big Four and the NBA should be out. :D
It's what Mark Cuban said when he was up here--the NHL has an inferiority complex and is constantly apologizing.

If you took total North American viewership (as Hollywood does for box office receipts) for hockey, the NHL kicks the NBA's ass.

Playoffs? PLAYOFFS? (/JimMora)

Carolina has been smashed the last two games by a combined 11-2. One of those losses by to the F_cking Flyers. The basement-hugging Flyers!

Then again, Montreal smashed the Canes 6-1 in the first postseason game en route to the Cup. Maybe it's an omen. Whalercanes fans can only hope so.

The Flyers swept the four-game season series against the Thrashers, too.

This is rather shocking, particularly if you're a NBA fan.

The NHL telecast on NBC (Boston Bruins-Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers-New York Islanders regionally) drew a larger national audience than ABC's National Basketball Association telecast (Phoenix Suns-Sacramento Kings).

From the perspective of the NHL, the numbers show that, on a good day, hockey is in the same ballpark as the NBA and even capable of posting a win.

The numbers, unfortunately don't really reflect a hige change in the NHL scheme. They were what they averaged last year for an NHL broadcast. But for basketball, however, I'd say it's more of a blow to them to post their worst numbers ever on what should have been a pretty entertaining game (I don't know if it was, I didn't watch it). A 1.0 share is nothign to crow about.

Pens-Leafs in OT, but apparently in a delay. Whitney forced OT for the Pens with a goal at the 19:56 mark and they've stopped the game because (according to what I'm reading) a fan might have had a heart attack.

According to the CBC, the fan was resuscitated on site, then taken to hospital.

"The goal with four seconds left in regulation time simply proved too much for this person, who had already spent upwards of $37,000 in order to attend the game," Dr. Cutnow Asklater said of the patient, who was recovering after 29 hours of life-saving surgery.

"MLSE was determined that this patient's life be saved at all costs, as his signature was needed in order to process further charges to his credit card. They are to be commended for their concern and their quick thinking in responding to this emergency."

It was not clear whether the $37,000 figure as quoted by Dr. Asklater actually included the price of tickets to Saturday's game. MLSE spokesperson Greed Isgood initially refused to confirm how much money the fan spent, but later offered media outlets the opportunity to buy an itemized list of the fan's purchases for $500. "The list is hypothetically accurate," Isgood said.

No one in their right mind would pay that much to watch the Maple Griefs!

There's a Sabres season ticket holder who sells his tickets to the four games against the Leafs.

It pays for the other 37 home games.

Ed Belfour is such an idiot. OT game against the Canes and a penalty is called against the Panthers. He starts moving away from the net feigning a diving motion and gets an unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty. Canes win the game with a 5-on-3 goal and get two huge points. Might be too few too late, but you never know.
