All-purpose, running Tim Tebow sucks/is a deity thread!

Thanks for the suggestion Pern but I'll watch so that I can see ample proof this god doesn't give a shirt about a sporting event.

Also, anyone who doesn't like reading what I think about Tebow--the button is to the left. You think I can avoid Tebow's spewings about religion. I KNOW you can avoid mine.

Yeah, but some of us like you, even though we disagree with nearly everything you say.

I predict that Tebow will sustain his ability to be a good kid, who thinks more about others than about himself.

He's not only been the best story in the NFL this year, he's been the least predictable big story.

And, when over 50 million people watch the end of the AFC Wild Card game, and it delivers the highest ratings in over 24 years, you can't blame anyone in the public or in the media for over hyping the him. He deserves every bit of attention he's getting.

And, if he wants to praise God every time someone puts a microphone in front of his face, well, more power to him.

I'm basically a member of the "shut up and sing" chorus. Have been to too many concerts that have been hijacked by preachy liberalism in the middle of the concert. In the middle of the concert.

But, I don't see any reason to get offended by someone who genuinely thanks his God at every opportunity. It's pre- and/or post-game. Don't watch it. It's predictable.

And, if it's the actual message -- a religious one -- that offends you, as opposed to the delivery of any general message, then that strikes me as a kind of anti-religious bigotry.

I like to get on BYH on some topics. But, I have no real issue with him. But, I'm not sure how you can describe his reaction to Tebow as anything short of bigotry.

AGAIN: It's how I feel about ANYONE who shoves religion down my throat. You can look it up, as the saying goes. I have been utterly consistent with this, and open about it. Proving how statistically unlikely it is Tebow will keep this pace up and getting his rabid fans into a frothy rage is just a bonus.

The problem with Tebow is he IS more in our face about it than just about anyone, which is compounded by the natural tendency of NFL rightsholders to publicize him well beyond the point of oversaturation. I am also annoyed by the hypocrisy of the fans who would scream bloody murder if he was, say, not standing for the pledge of allegiance b/c of religious beliefs. How'd that work out for Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf?

I don't like religion. Period. It's a crock of shirt and I am offended when anyone who chooses to believe in this fairy tale refuses to keep it to him/herself. That's how I feel, and I am more than happy to continue this discussion with anyone who wants to do so. I have yet to sway anyone to my side of the debate, but the next person who thinks I'm a bigot after the discussion will be the first.

He's not shoving it down your throat, but he also not ashamed of it.

There's a coffee shop near my house run by life-long Christian missionaries (a couple with grown children). Their missions to many coffee-growing regions of the world allowed them to gain expertise and appreciation of coffee. So they drive to the Port of New Orleans every week - it's not far away and they say 80 percent of the world's beans come through that port. They roast the beans on site and actually built a bar around the roaster so patrons can sit down and enjoy a cup and watch the proprietor do his work.

At any rate, it doesn't take you long to figure out that they are devout. I don't share their religious beliefs and their beliefs definitely come across to you. But they do it in such a way that is heavy-handed or intrusive. As a result, they have a broad-based clientele, not just the religious folks. And many of the customers, myself included, are very friendly with them. In many ways, it's a fairly typical coffee house crowd.

I see Tebow in much the same way. Yes, he wrote a book, but I don't see him as a crusader. I see people projecting that onto him more than anything he does to earn the reputation. I have no problem with his religiousness at all.

His tendency to one-hop passes that a decent NFL QB would throw on the numbers? That, I have a problem with.

Here has been my beef with the Tebow obsession all along. Not just here, but everywhere.

First, he is far from the first NFL player to ever be a Christian. OK, so he really, really puts his faith out there. Still not the first to pray after a score. Or before the game. Or after the game. I have been watching players from both teams prayer together after games for as long as I can remember. This action is not some great thing that Tebow created, though it seems to be getting attributed to him.

Second, there have been quarterbacks every week of this season that played better or did something amazing. I would like to hear about some of those other quarterbacks and the great things they are doing. But all anyone seems to talk about is what Tebow did every week. Did he really and truly play the absolutely best out of all the QBs in the league every single week that he played this season? No. But he seems to be touted as the best and he simply wasn't.

I wouldn't use the button, BYH, because I think, in general, you're an entertaining and thought-provoking poster.

I don't even really care that you suddenly can't stop ranting and raving about Tebow. I just don't get why. Does seeing a guy kneel and put a fist to his forehead really bother you that much?

I've never seen you rail against baseball players pointing to the sky when they cross home plate the way you rail against Tebow.

Really, the only Tebow/god stuff you HAVE to put up with the is the post-TD celebration. The rest is just white noise that can be tuned out with the click of a button. I KNOW it can be done, because it's generally what I do.

It's liking arguing the merits of Justin Bieber at this point. He's a full blown phenomenon. He had the highest rating for an AFC Wild Card game in over 24 years, and over 50 million people watched the end of the game.

As Howard Cosell used to say, "Enough of that, Muhammad, what about the fight?"

How much were the ratings due to Tebow and how much were they due to the time slot (Sunday prime time) and the score? I'd like to see year-by-year comparisons for the late Sunday wild card game before saying it was thanks to him.

It was due to TEBOW! And they put him in that time slot for a reason. Because they knew the ratings were going to be higher ....

They have had a late Sunday wild-card game ever since they've had the wild card, so it at the very least beat the last 23 of those.
