Always assume that the mics are hot

A very unfortunate situation brewing in Buffalo.

One of the local TV stations left its live feed running and the hot mic picked up the Bills reporter talking about how Stefon Diggs wasn't the easiest to work with.

The team reporter apologized but Diggs took exception to this (despite the fact there are many who will say the team reporter is not wrong).

A good reminder that the mics, indeed, should be treated as if they're always hot.

Receivers and cornerbacks always seem to be the biggest divas ... and then the biggest babies.

Who else is involved in that conversation with Maddy?

I made a comment earlier today that I guess went out over the air that I am deeply ashamed of. If I have hurt anyone out there, I can't tell you how much I say from the bottom of my heart I'm so very, very sorry. I pride myself and think of myself as a woman of faith – as there's a drive into deep left field by Castellanos, it will be a home run.

It didn't surprise me a bit that the UALR AD said all that. I know the guy; those remarks are totally in line with his way of thinking.

Over the course of my time on-air, I seemed to have developed a sort of sixth sense that a microphone is nearby ... even if I don't see it.
    It wasn't always that way.
Think I've told the story before, so here's a short version.
As a teenager, I stated on-air, "What the f*** is going on?"
Didn't realize the guy the night before had left the mic "on" when he signed off. I come staggering in on a Sunday morning (of all mornings) and turn on the transmitter.
Sat down to cue up a record but couldn't because the mic was "on" and that automatically silenced the in-studio cue speakers. I was sitting directly in front of the microphone.
There's more to the story but I won't bore you.
