And how bad were the Grimes gang when it came to shooting? The Gov just stood there in the open and the guy on the tower had no cover.

Remember the first time little crazy eyed Carl shot his big gun? At dusk, past his dad's head, into Shane's head maybe 20 yards away, boom! Sunday he couldn't hit crap.

The Governor kept his distance and forced them to shoot through fences. The distances were key, and the Governor's people had much better positioning and the element of surprise.

Yeah, but they should make their first shots count and take out a leader, not some hapless, lovesick inmate.

That's why he's the Governor and not the President.

What leader would they have taken out? Rick was outside the prison when the attack started and wasn't seen by the Governor's group for a few minutes, and Glenn -- who apparently is in charge when Rick isn't around -- was AWOL.

We didn't know Jim or Amy well at all. The only characters we've really known who have died are Lori, Dale and Shane.

Which goes back to the idea of giving some kind of arc even to characters who aren't around long.

Of course, sometimes you can tell a character is about to go because he or she gets a little more attention. That's how it was for T-Dog and Axel.

I think it would greatly enhance the show to strike another significant death. Deaths with consequence, real consequence, give a show like this much more life.

Battlestar Galactica spoilers ahead:

That was one issue I had with so much of Battlestar Galactica. They constantly showed huge casualties in battles, constantly had another man down, but it was never anyone we knew. They killed Starbuck in a wonderful way, only to make it so that she wasn't dead (or alive; nice job explaining that, huh?). They killed Billy, then Dualla, because neither death came with much consequence. They killed Gaita but only at the end after using him as a bit of a plot device in a coup in which his involvement never quite made sense.

Can't argue with any of that, including the points about Battlestar Galactica.

The whole thing with Starbuck drove me nuts. I still don't like any part of it, including the lack of any kind of decent explanation. You make a good point about Gaita. His part in the coup made very little sense. Cat was the same trick Walking Dead does. Take a minor character and develop her a bit more right before killing her off so maybe it will seem like she mattered. Maybe they should have taken Apollo out. I can see the ending still working without him.

Do we REALLY need spoiler alerts for BSG? I would think most people into Walking Dead would have already seen the whole damn show...maybe twice.

What's next? Spoiler alerts for Family Ties?

I don't particularly care one or another about the BSG spoilers since I don't plan to ever see the show, but Spike, I can't understand for the life of me why it would bother you that someone offered a spoiler alert.

Spoilers have been discussed at length on this thread, going so far as to spawn a separate thread, so Verse and OOP offered a simple courtesy and let people know spoilers lay ahead in their posts. Do those 12 letters really irritate you that much?

Yes, I am furious. *rolls eyes*

True, but I did feel a little silly doing it given that the show ended in 2009.

Never said you were furious. Said you were bothered and asked if you were irritated. Obviously, you were bothered enough to take the time to post about it. My question was, why?

Sure, as OOP said, it's a little silly to do it for a show that ended in 2009, but again, it was 12 letters that did nothing but offer a heads up to people. Seemed equally silly to bother posting about it.

SPOILER WARNING: At some point further along in this thread, someone will complain about spoilers in this thread.

You need to get that sarcasm reader into the shop. It's not working.

You really think everyone in this thread has seen Battlestar Galactica? Do you understand how much bigger The Walking Dead is?

I hadn't seen a single minute of BSG until December.
