Rewatched Season One today and caught the premiere. I liked it. A little slow for my liking but pretty solid overall. And the screwdriver to the eye was pretty badass.

Best part of the night, though, was the veiled zombie in the church. Don't know why she was just chilling there but, hey, I'm not a nitpicker.

I just watched the 6 webisodes on the website about the origin of how the woman in the park in S1E1 became a crawling half-zombie. Didn't know they made those until just now. Kinda boring, but worth a watch...just more people killing zombies.

I like how they aren't following the comic line-for-line, but keeping near the premise. Very well done for episode 1.

Trying not to post any spoilers, but what was happening in that last scene?

Were they going to let the kid pet the deer? Why are they letting a child walk towards a wild animal that will likely trample or gore him when they have guns in their hands?

I thought the first episode was good, the first zombie encounter on the highway was intense. But it was hard to get into a flow, really, because there was a commercial every 2 minutes. I know Walking Dead isn't cheap to produce, and I know AMC had to hype it's new series, but man, it was like watching an NFL game with the commercials.

Probably because it would not "likely trample or gore him".

If you're able/willing, DVR it and watch it w/o the commercials.

I don't have a DVR. I could wait and watch it On Demand, I guess. I mean, the commercials didn't ruin it or anything, it just got annoying that there seemed to be so many. Of course, I watched Season 1 on DVD so maybe I got spoiled.

Pretty good episode. I wonder if Carl is dead?

The highway scene was very intense. Great direction, writing and acting there.

At first I wondered why the zombies were just chillin in the church, too. But it's been stated and shown that there is some very weak semblance of memory, so perhaps these were avid churchgoers turned walking dead. Furthermore, not all zombies just mope around and grunt while looking to eat some living flesh. There are roamers like we saw on the highway and lurkers like seated in the burned-out bus in downtown Atlanta and now the church.

I actually DVRd the re-run of the episode (the second showing) and there was no commercial until like 28 minutes into the thing. In fact, I thought it might be a commercial-less episode up to that point.

Anyway, a strong start to the season and surprising way to end the episode.

Do they have another replay? Got stuck working and completely forgot it was on.

I didn't think Baptists had crucifixes in their churches? Seems like a pretty major error in the church scene.
