I don't watch the show, but I was reading Esquire.com and they had a review of the newest episode that included comments from the comic's author who wrote the episode. No major spoilers, but he does say he encourages the show producers to stray from the comics.

And another weekly interview with Robert Kirkman over at EW. The third question and, especially his answer, really delve into the added storylines and scenes of the TV show compared to the comic.

Also, Jeff Jensen and Dan Snierson's weekly review is good stuff.

One of the other characters asks that same question and the brother comments that the saw blade must have been too dull for the handcuffs.

I've read the first 50 or so issues of the comic and I can say, as the EW interview with Kirkman alludes to, that the show is not a page-for-page recreation of the comic.

There was no helicopter at the beginning of the book like in the show, the sheriff didn't get trapped in the tank, there's no Merle, no hacked off hand, etc. etc. However, the main plot points are there -- the affair, the sister being the first "main" character bit. Also, Rick and his family were reunited in the second issue like the show.

I'm a little worried about the shooting schedule of the show. Rick's son plays a big part in the book and I'm afraid if they delay shooting the second season, the kid's gonna grow outta the part ala Walt in Lost.

I also hope the love triangle is resolved in the next two episodes and not dragged into season 2.

    Or.... maybe.... he gets ate.

I wonder if this show would go there.

Seeing as the main character iced a little girl less than five minutes into the premiere, I'd say it's on the table.

Morgan's son strikes me as a more likely candidate, though.

If they REALLY wanted to stray away from the comic, I guess they could do it.

So, is that a spoiler or am I reading it wrong?

kokane, please don't answer that. There is no spoiler warning on this thread, guys, so maybe we could avoid them?

There's no spoiler there. You may be reading into it wrong. I'm just saying the kid is a big part of the comic. Period.

The son is a big part of the story. I was talking to a friend of mine who's read the comic and just started watching the show. If they really wanted to stray from that story line, something will happen to the kid. But I doubt they do.
