By the way, am I the only one who didn't know (until now) that Jordin Sparks sang at Pat Tillman's memorial service?

That's her problem. That's the way I spell Amerikkka. On some days, I spell it amerikkka or America. Any way, it's the was I want to spell it.

That's precisely what I was doing. I was not at all responding to a point made about great performers without what one might refer to as a classic voice. I was suggesting Sanjaya could front Pearl Jam or Nirvana.

Sanjaya has a lot going for him...

The comic factor is huge... He's laughably bad and I don't know if they've had someone like that who made it to the Final 12. Granted, I didn't really start watching the show until the end of Season 2...

Plus, I think Simon Fuller was the one who came out and blamed Howard Stern for Sanjaya making it this far when Howard had never said anything other than "he thought it was funny" that Sanjaya outlasted a few of the other guys, but after reading the article on the air, Stern said, "If I'm going to be blamed for something, I might as well actually do it."

I'll bet it's the combination of that, Votefortheworst.com, 12-year-old girls and Indian-Americans who are the reason this guy keeps going strong... I think the whole thing is hilarious...

I might feel otherwise if Haley is voted off next week though... :)

I'm not a joker. That's the way I spell it. If you don't like it, tough.

No, he couldn't. Because Sanjaya would have to believably show angst, of which he has none. I don't think his "Steppin' Out" vocals would lend itself to "Smells Like Teen Spirit" or even "Daughter."

I wouldn't be surprised if LaKisha goes in the next few weeks. She seems to have plateaued, and there's a screw-you factor creeping in. Gina ensured herself another few weeks with a terrific Chrissie Hynde-lite vocal.

I completely agree. LaKisha is getting too safe. If Sanjaya stays until the top 5, though, I'm going to start considering suicide. Or at least, banning the show from my DVR.

I wouldn't be surprised if he lasted until the final round. Amerikkka isn't the best judge of talent.

I have never watch Idol. Never. But if this Sanjaya makes the final round, I'll tune in for the train wreck factor.

    I rest my case.

  12. Normally I do refrain from name calling but there are exceptions, especially when people start a conversation about something most people don't know about and just add to the ignorance.

You're right about Bob Jones being a fucked up institution but you're wrong to automatically dismiss someone because of their background. Bob Jones is Kindergarten-college. They start messing with these kids' minds early. I don't know Sligh, but he got out. Many of the rational students stop and say, what the hell is this, and they go somewhere else when they're of age.

Hell, I know a few who graduated from there, are proud of it, but get out into the real world and realize they were lied to.

As for Sligh, here's an excerpt and link from an interview he did today with Entertainment Weekly.

Q:What was your take on the comment that a Bob Jones University spokesman made about being disappointed with the musical direction you went in?

AI'm trying to think of how to put this in a way that's nice... It's a sect of Christianity that puts their heads in the sand and doesn't want to engage the world around them. I've talked about it on the show, that I was not able to listen to pop music growing up. To them, it's literally a sin for me to sing pop or rock music. I almost feel sorry for them because life is so much bigger than what they're seeing but at the same time I can respect their beliefs and say, ''God bless you.''
