    Description:
    The New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung, a 9,800-circulation, six-day-a-week newspaper in the Hill Country of Texas, seeks a strong No. 2 for the newsroom. The Herald-Zeitung was recently named Texas AP Newspaper of the Year in its circulation class. We are looking for a driven newsroom leader with a passion for great community journalism and a desire to improve the newspaper on a daily basis. Responsibilities include writing two editorials a week, laying out news and sports pages, uploading the Web site, editing copy, assigning stories and coaching reporters. Knowledge of AP, strong line editing, headline writing and page design skills are required. The ideal candidate will have a reporting background. Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of sports. Familiarity with Web posting and multi-media is a plus. The assistant managing editor must have good news judgment, and understand the mission of community newspapers. This is an evening shift, responsible for putting the paper to bed. Immediate opening.
