My name is Adam Samrov, and I'm the Banner's ME. The person who is leaving this job had worked at the Banner for more than two years. If you have any questions, I can try to answer them for you. This job, although not mentioned in the ad specifically because it's a bit out of the coverage area, does allow for *some* coverage of NY Giants training camp in Albany... but 95 percent of the job is really preps and the other 'beats' mentioned in the ad.

The only question I have about this job is how does an 8,000-circulation paper have an assistant sports editor? I know of papers double and triple its size that don't have assistant sports editors.

So, basically this is a staff writer position?

Yeah, but they are into passing out titles. Makes people feel wanted and secure.

  6. I'm guessing the title means you're salaried and can be worked as much as they want. But I could be wrong.

Basically. But you have to paginate too.

No. It's an hourly position. The only salaried people in the newsroom are the exec editor, me and the sports editor.
