    HOOP, a bimonthly national basketball magazine, is seeking a savvy, creative and knowledgeable Associate Editor. The candidate, besides being all-knowing in everything NBA and one who keeps up with basketball and pop culture, needs to be highly organized, able to juggle tasks, not be afraid of working in a fast-paced environment, the ability to work with a small team and possess a knack for looking at the game beyond 94 x 50 feet.

    The job will specifically entail:
    Editing all copy for clarity and style
    Managing the editorial flow from raw copy to bluelines
    Developing ideas for the magazine, from small departments to editorial packages
    Writing FOB items and feature sidebars
    Reporting at local basketball games and media events
    Updating and contributing to HOOPs website and social media initiatives
    Liaising with PR companies and freelancers
    Researching and tracking photos

    The position will offer a motivated individual an opportunity to turn their creative ideas into initiatives for the magazine. It is imperative that the candidate demonstrate an ability to cooperatively work within a small team and be willing to play the role of Andrei Kirilenko. The position will require schedule flexibility as it entails attending games/media events at nights and/or weekends.

    The ideal candidate should have at least 1 year of magazine experience, along with ability to use inDesign (and/or other page layout program), Word, Excel, light HTML and be Internet-savvy. New media experience is a plus.

    The position offers an entry-level salary and an excellent health/dental insurance package.
