  1. It seems at least once a year George Brett has the same reaction as the Nationals when they play the Red Sox

    (NSFW language)

George Brett is also the greatest baseball player ever from West Virginia

    1. George Brett - one of the top 3 third basemen of all-time
    2. Jesse Burkett - Hall of Fame outfielder who spent his final days in Worcester - career .338 batting average
    3. Bill Mazeroski - Hall of Fame second baseman
    4. Wilbur Cooper - career 216-178 with a 2.89 ERA and 279 complete games
    5. (tie) Lew Burdette - 203-144 with a 3.66 ERA (tie) Toby Harrah - 4-time all-star

Some great No. 5s, besides Brett:
-- Four-time NL batting champion Bill Madlock
-- One-time good player Nomar Garciaparra
    -- Uhhh...Joe Dimaggio?
-- Former Astros great Jeff Bagwell

  3. Joe DiMaggio was a Yankee so he doesn't count.

Abe Lincoln was also a number 5 - that was his intramural wrestling number. I only bring that up because the Red Sox magic number now stands at 87 which of course if four score plus seven.

I was going to post a picture of hemorrhoids, but take it from me: Don't Google image search the word hemorrhoids.

  5. BYH - how do you think Smoltz will do in his comeback bid?

If he falters - how much patience will the Red Sox have until bringing up Buchholtz?

I'll still be surprised if Smoltz makes it thru October with no hiccups.

And I think if Smoltz gets hurt, they turn back to Dice-K or Masterson and keep Buchholz down all year if possible to save an option...though the way he's pitching in Pawtucket, he'll never need the option once he gets back to The Show.

I don't know. Ned Yost might have been every bit the catcher Bench was.

Why does Chris always jump the gun on starting new baseballl threads?

Oh, yeah, one more "look at me" guy.

  12. I crave your attention spirited. That's it. I may even start supporting the Mets just so you will pay more attention to me.
