Just for the sake of context, here's naf's entire post:

BTW the NL East is really a bad division.

The only reason the Mets are winning is because their pitching can be terrific at times and David Wright. Reyes and Delgado have been awful since the middle of May. Beltran is hurt again. Paul LoDuca and Jose Valentin are the only other semi-reliable bats in the lineup.

If this recent stiny against the NL West hasn't told you what you needed to know about the Braves it should. They are a .500 team with a mediocre 3/5th of the rotation and an awful bullpen.

The Phillies have a great offense but no pitching consistency to speak of.

From 2007 on this division might belong to the Marlins. They are very very young, but the potential upside on that team is through the roof once they grab three more blue chippers for Willis.

What he said about the Mets wasn't a prediction, it was an assessment of where they were at the time, and it was pretty accurate. The rest of it holds up fine. I don't see the problem.

  3. Whole balata love - you don' contribute a lot to the baseball theads so you probably missed it but I specifically remember saying that Milledge would be hitting about .260 come the ides of June. Unfortunately that post was deleted by Moddy because I also posted a picture of Joe Mauer's girlfiend Chelsea Cooley (who I've slept with).

Nafselon - I wasn't picking on you. I was trying to illustrate how much things can change in a month. Everything you wrote was correct at the time you wrote it. By the same token - in the earlier baseball thread I made the case that Tom Glavine was the runaway leader for NL Cy Young (and that Colorado would run away with the NL West). Times have changed on that as well.

There has traditionally been a lot of ribbing done in the baseball threads but it has always been in good fun and not in any spirit(ed) of meanness.

(Well this thread got off to a rousing start)

Yeah, can we have ONE thread here that at least pretends to be somewhat civil? We're talking baseball, for cripe's sake, not politics or war or whatever.

I don't agree with Lou's politics (and his choice of pictures now and then) but dude definitely knows his baseball. I'd be reluctant to get in a discusson with him if not armed with a buttload of information to support my side.
Notice I said discussion. Not argument, not debate, discussion.

Lou's first post in this thread was just a little recap and a little ball-busting. I doubt he was looking for an argument when he referenced noles" Mets post...

nor when he finally agreed with me that mauer is hitting a soft .380 ;D

  6. Moddy you ignorant slut - YOU'RE WRONG!!

Assuming your "my dogmoderator atedeleted my homeworkprediction" sob story is true.....

How does hitting .260 in the first 50 major-league at-bats make him NOT living up to his hype?

  8. Moddy deleting my post is as true as me sleeping with Chelsea Cooley. How dare you question my veracity!

The whole point was tongue in cheek. Milledge will be a fine player. 50 at bats is too small a sample size to tell anything about a player. Prince Fielder looked awful in his first 50 AB this year and then he got red hot.

Since his 1-for-11 start, Milledge is 12 for 40 with 11 RBI in last 10 games. Not too shabby.
He has some very bad at bats, looks bad on the bases at times, but he's 21 years old and still learning.
Meanwhile, Nady was 4-for-4 with HR in rehab start last night. Mets have some decisions to make soon.

  10. The Tigers need a left handed bat - would they try to make a deal for Cliff Floyd? How about the Dodgers? If you are the Mets - do you do a Floyd for Jae Seo deal?

Trading Floyd would clear up the outfield jam and improve the outfield defense. Plus Floyd is gone after this year anyway.

    Last 10:
Milledge 2 HR, 11 RBI out of 8 hole
Mauer 1 HR, 5 RBI hitting third

    You decide what it means.

I got no feeling you were joking about Milledge and saying he is overhyped.
