How often are you going to boast about your voting privileges?

How much of an impact does ANY everyday player have on the record?

Not enough for (in baseball) this bullshit distinction to be made between Player of the Year and Most Valuable. If you put fucking Andre Dawson's 1987 on the Cardinals, they win the East by even more games and WIN the World Series.

    Chrissakes.

Oh, and LJB, I'm with you.

Tigers have 13 left with Chicago, 10 with KC (including six in the last two weeks), and 9 with Cleveland.

That's extremely unfair, Lee. If you knew Casty (I only know him via here but those who worked with and against him speak of him in the highest terms), you'd know he's the least likely chest-thumper around. *coug* the anti-Whitlock *cough cough* It's not like he comes on here with threads called I HAD AN MVP VOTE IN 1987 AND HERE'S WHY I VOTED THE WAY I DID.

We have these MVP discussions, the voters get lambasted and Casty explains his thought process. It's anything but boasting. Everyone knows his real ID and if he wants to explain himself when prompted, then what's wrong with that? Isn't a common complaint of this place the anonymity? That's what gets people humping Whitlock's leg, yet now it's Casty who is boasting?

Exactly. Casty may be the most respected SportsJournalists.com poster here. If not, he's definitely top three.

Oh, and hey, how about that big hit today by 2005 AL MVP David Ortiz?

Or how about that blown save by Jonathan Papelbon?

Every time there's a debate on the Hall or the MVP, casty makes sure to note his long, established career as a baseball writer -- as if us stupid non-voting schlubs didn't even know that already -- and hoist his golden lanyard high over our heads and that he earned his vote from covering the game. Almost aways the same phraseology. We get it. Yes, you've seen it all and done it all. Congratulations on a great career. But we're talking about something else.

We all have credentials here that we don't talk about because it's not germane to any discussion. It gets tiresome. It's like the professor standing in front of the seminar and reminding everyone that he has three or four skins on the wall.

And I've never taken a potshot at him, by the way, though I was criticized in PM for "chasing him off the board." What the fuck ever.
