BCS leagues expanding - yeah?

There's a reason she called Nebraska first. Berry Tramel is right, Missouri could stay or go on its own and it makes no difference. Nebraska is the one with the power to hold the conference together or destroy it, which is funny considering all the talk that TV markets are what matters and Nebraska is a state with 1.7 million people.

But if you get Nebraska you get every single one of those 1.7 million people. Plus, they have a huge alumni network out west.

Frankly, the Big Ten does not want 1.7 people. They want Notre Dame. They want the irish, the catholics, the alumni and national television network. They don't want to be in JUST Nebraska. They want to be in every home from Maine to California.

But they know if they can't get Notre Dame, Nebraska is one of the few programs that does appeal to college football fans nationwide and would be a draw for the Big 10 Network. It might not be Notre Dame, but Nebraska would be a nice consolation prize.

I suppose. But something tells me Jim Delany doesn't want a consolation prize.

The KU chancellor can't think she could go to Europe, then come back guns blazing, frantically calling everyone to say "Please stop! I might not have cared enough to cancel or reschedule my vacation! But I care NOW!!!!!!!!"

(If she was in Europe for a funeral or something, I stand corrected)

In London, meeting with alumni and other university supporters. It's not like she went to southern France beaches, toured London and skipped down to Italy to take in the art and pasta. Remember, the Big 12 meetings were business as usual until the Pac-10 bombshell Thursday. Was she supposed to fly back the moment a blog reported that story? It's not like she didn't keep in contact with the people at those meetings.

I have a lot more respect for Bernadette Gray-Little multi-tasking overseas than I do for Mizzou, practically crawling on all fours, pleading, begging the Big 10 to send an invite because they would do anything for it. The more I think about it, KU, K-State and Iowa State might be the only three schools truly committed to the Big 12. Mizzou's chancellor might have been at the meetings, but that doesn't mean he/she cared to be there.

Shouldn't miss these meetings for any reason. Even without the Pac-10 bombshell, losing Missouri and Nebraska was a well-known danger. And for the KU chancellor to return and call those schools - which everyone knew would receive invites to leave, as opposed to the Pac-10's preferred partners - is a plea she could have made face-to-face.

Of COURSE you respect this chancellor more than Missouri's, Oz. If Kansas were approached by another conference, you'd be singing the praises of realignment. If you think you wouldn't, you should be, considering the fact that KU is another weak sister in terms of Big XII football revenue sharing.

The Big XII doesn't distribute TV money evenly. There's no honor in holding a loyalty to a conference that deliberately pumps up certain members at the expense of the others.

Thanks for telling me what I should believe.

My hatred for KU aside, I am stunned that schools like Colorado and Missouri are both possibly getting invites to superconferences and there has been nary a mention of the Jayhawks.

The hits just keep coming.

Chip Brown must be one busy guy over at Orangebloods.com, because the news get more crazier every hour.

Brown reports a few minutes ago that Colorado is "expected" to make "big announcement" on Wednesday. Rumor is they're bailing out for the Pac-10. Penalty fee if they leave: $10 million. But, as noted several times, Colorado isn't in good financial shape and may not be able to scratch the check.

I'll believe it when I see Colorado step up to the podium and go Cosmo Kramer "We're out!"

No doubt Brown has made his bones on this story, but considering he covers Texas, I wouldn't be surprised if he is being played to some extent.
I don't know why, or even by whom, it just seems that maybe someone had a story to push that would be advantageous to them and went to a guy like Brown.

So if Colorado bolts the Big 12 has to be done. ND is caught with their pants down and doesn't commit before Colorado makes an announcement to go to the Pac-16 and this shirt is over.

The Big Ten will grab Nebraska and Missouri, Kansas and Pittsburgh thereby screwing the Big East too. Then Notre Dame has to join in fear of being left out. So now we have two super-16 conferences.

And then its the SEC's turn... which four do they take? VT, FSU, then who?

I think I must point out that all we have yet on this story is nothing. That's not to denigrate the reporters on this story, they're digging hard and well, but as yet, all they've struck is another mother lode on Bullshirt Mountain.

No, thank you for not having a coherent response.

Again, there is no honor in holding a loyalty to a conference that screws your beloved Jayhawks. Don't be bitter because they haven't been mentioned in ANY of these scenarios, leaving you to grasp at straws like "Mountain West Conference membership wouldn't be so bad!"
