That's a good get for the MW. Now, what does the Pac do? Still needs a football member to get to eight.

I think that San Jose State would crawl into the Pac if/when they had the opportunity. I believe that San Jose State wants to be in the same conference as an Diego State and Fresno State. I also suspect Wyoming would jump also in order to be in the same conference as Colorado State.

I don't know how binding it was for the MW teams that made the decision to stay in the MW, but that is a factor. But those schools are not at all on the radar of the new Pac unless it becomes super desperate time. If they were then it would have happened from the start. Current MW schools would be UNLV or New Mexico if I had to guess, but again, they did that solidarity thing, which I am guessing included something financial.

There hasn't been any movement at all, obviously, but the rumors have always been strong that Memphis and Tulane are still the targets. The conference also trademarked the name up to Pac-14, read what you will into that. Can't imagine it gets that big anytime soon and if it does, who would it even be?

I'm a SJSU grad and I can't see them in the new Pac-12. About the only thing they would bring into the conference is a toehold in the Bay Area market, and the one they have isn't that big.

The MAC's most successful program? I suppose that's true if you're willing to limit your evaluation period to 1997-2024. The conference dates to the 1940s.

I believe he was among the Florida/national media who devoured the FSU litigation against the ACC and proclaimed the Seminoles' freedom to be imminent.

I'd say Toledo is historically the most successful NAC football program, no?

That annual plane ride for the Hawaii-NIU game is going to be a bitch, no matter who is the visiting team.

I can't envision the Pac poaching another MWC team. Like I said, they need to bury the hatchet and start spending their money on program enhancement, not legal fees.

I actually think SJSU has done some nice things with their AD. They seem to put forth a decent football team more often than not anymore. While I don't think media markets carry as much weight as they once did, it is still a factor and you can't deny that would be the biggest in the new conference.

But CSU played them in basketball on New Year's Eve and if there were 50 people there I'd be amazed (yes, I watched the whole thing). I think crowd draws can be overrated, but you can't deny something like that is what the schools that are leaving are trying to distance themselves from.

Agreed totally on Jeff Konya. He's done a lot of things his predecessors didn't, like the makeover of Spartan Stadium and the South Campus complex and getting more exposure for not just football, but other sports, on cable and radio (on top of the Mountain West's streaming package).

Basketball has always been a tough draw and it's always been a struggle for the women's team. But on top of football, I'm encouraged by what I'm seeing in baseball, golf, gymnastics and track and field.
