Bill Belichick, sleazeball

Rok, what is your obsession with Belichick's sex life?

Fine, the guy is a douche. I'll give you that.

But your comment about people refusing to respect him because of his alleged philandering -- well, if you go by anecdotal evidence provided on this thread and that's generally out there, I bet you at least half of the players in there are doing the same thing.

Smasher, with whom I have disagreed previously, has it right.

"NEW YORK (AP) -- Former New England Patriots linebacker Ted Johnson said coach Bill Belichick subjected him to hard hits in practice while he was recovering from a concussion -- against the advice of the team's top trainer.

"Johnson, who helped the Patriots win three Super Bowl titles before retiring two years ago, told The New York Times that a collision with another player during that 2002 practice led to another concussion. And, after sustaining additional concussions over the next three seasons, he now forgets people's names, misses appointments and suffers from depression and an addiction to amphetamines."

    Yeah, sleazeball sounds about right.

Teddy Johnson always was quality people, so if he's saying that ...

I'm not one to defend Belichick, but I heard a rumor that Johnson might be angling to get a settlement from the league, and thus is throwing Bellichick under the bus a bit here in order to strengthen his disability case.

I don't want to impugn Johnson or his motives. And it pains me to 'defend' Belichick. But this rumor is out there.

You don't want to impugn Johnson or his motives, but fuck, the guy has the chief of neurosurgery at a Boston hospital lying about his condition, if you give credence to these nebulous rumors you're privvy to: "[the damage is] most likely permanent," said Dr. Cantu. "Ted already shows the mild congnitive impairment that is characteristic of early Alzheimer's disease. The majority of those symptons relentlessly progess over time. It could be that at the time he's in his 50s, he could have severe Alzheimer's symptoms."

Yeah. Sounds like he and the doctor are "angling" for a settlement from the league. I'm sure the doctor insisted on at least half of the settlement, right?

Ragu, believe me, no one wants to believe Johnson more than I do. TJ's a hell of a guy, and it makes BB look even worse.

I did hear that, however, and I thought I'd pass it on. This isn't my column on the subject, it's a message board. :)

More than that, I hope TJ gets a huge settlement from the NFL/Pats. It's about freaking time the league started owning up to the permanent damage that their game does to its (albeit willing) participants.

  9. If he gets Alzheimer's-type dementia, I hope every owner in the NFl has to mow his fucking lawn -- or change his diaper -- for the rest of their hideous lives. If this isn't exhibit A for Guaranteed Money, I don't know what is.

Everything is fine. Every NFL player lives a quality life for decades after retirement. There's nothing to see here. Enjoy the Super Bowl. Sausage being made.

Fenian, I see it a little differently.

If he was forced to play, in no uncertain terms, then yeah, I hope he owns Bob, Jonathan, Myra and any other Kraft that exists.

If he wasn't forced to play but chose to do so, I'd say that we all know the consequences of doing such.

    You're insane.

Johnson has been displaying signs he's not quite right for at least two years. As for the rumor that he wanted to play again for the Patriots...Riddick Bowe still wants to get into a ring. It doesn't mean Johnson's out to get the Pats because they wouldn't suit him up. It means he's having trouble telling up from down and doesn't know enough to know he shouldn't play football again.
