Just so I'm clear - the House Dems are being expected to provide Boehner votes that he can't get from his own caucus?

Non-existent vetting was all the rage in 2008.

He's got to have the votes if he's actually scheduled it to be voted on this evening.

No way the Boehner deal gets through the senate, right? That's what I'm hearing. So what's next.

NEWS ALERT: Wall Street analysts are capable of feeling embarrassment.

By the way, Robert Reich, on Marketplace yesterday, had a great takedown of the chutzpah of ratings agencies, particularly Standard & Poor's, which is threatening to downgrade U.S. debt if a deal doesn't contain at least $4 trillion in cuts. Reich's response, and I paraphrase: Oh, really? You, who rated shit mortgages as triple-A until the bottom fell out? You, who didn't do you job vetting these deals that passed your inexplicable smell test? You, who helped perpetuate the mortgage boom and crisis that has us where we are today? Really, S&P, now you think you've grown a set of balls?

A former colleague of mine who independently covers Mexico and the border online, said a lot of the Mexican papers he reads daily have the prominent headline: Obama elude gravar a los más ricos.

It translates to, Obama avoids taxing the rich.

Well, that is precisely what happened. Weak.

The only silver lining is that I wonder if maybe his people decided this is an issue with too much political capital to waste in a non-election year. Assuming the debt and deficit remain debate points next summer and fall, the Dems should be able to set up a fairly stark contrast to undecided voters: Hey, seniors, you can either vote to delay and reduce your own Medicare and Social Security payments, or you can vote to return tax levels on the richest Americans to their second-lowest levels in history!

I imagine some of the more ornery older independents would have a different take than they did when they voted in their Tea Party reps.

The rating agencies have fallen in love with the sound of their own voices, and with the hysterical market reaction every time they clear their damn throats. I can't help thinking the world would be a much better place if they'd just shut the hell up for a while.

The only vetting the DNC had in 2008 was ACORN and Moveon.org. Nothing else mattered. They wanted their guy after watching the hard core conservatives get "their guy" for eight years. You say the Bush era was in part, horrific, fine. But to call this current clown's White House adventure good is beyond irresponsible.

Oh no! Mexico thinks we have a problem.

    Now I'm really concerned.

This alone is reason enough for me to want my side to just surrender.
