Can we talk about Imus like adults?

And that's a pretty wild equation.

Look, it's understandable that you don't like the other side of this. Obviously, Ms. Lugs and Ms. Hill don't either. But not all news or commentary is good.

Yes, indeed, Mmac, C. Vivian Stringer is intent on making herself part of the story.
It's not like Imus made her and her players THE story!

    YIKES!

Stringer and Rutgers were damned either way. If they stayed silent, some would accuse them of little Imus swing in the wind. They talked, and they "embarrassed" themselves.

I clearly must be stupid, because I can't understand this logic.

Your egocentricism is showing. Lighter grip on the state flag, please.

I have no idea if anyone's mentioned this, and as much as I'd like to make a headfirst slide into some of the shitpiles that dot this and threads like it, I'm not going to spend all day looking for it either.

But one of the Rutgers players said something about how this has "ruined all they've done this season", or words to that effect. That's what got my Spidey sense sparked a little bit. I can certainly understand them being offended and hurt; my fat white ass isn't going to tell a black woman to take a racist, sexist comment with a grain of salt. But ruined everything they did? Did Don Imus even show up on any of their radars this time last month? That made me wonder if parts of this might be somewhat ... contrived. Not that they wouldn't be legitimately reeling, but that seems a little overboard. Some retard comment by a used dollar-store condom of a radio pseduo-personality whose fame clock is insistently stuck on 14:59.99 shouldn't have the ability to wipe away a trip to the title game and wins against two teams that beat the fuck out of them earlier this year.

Is it possible that some of the comments might have been made with an eye towards making an impact, as opposed to a gut-shot reaction?

Please--I'm not equating rape with insults, and you know it. But now we've moved into the 'blame the victim' schtick, and it's absurd.

I repeat my earlier comment here: They got slashed, and they have every right to slash back.

Milking it? You mean they put out a press release asking for the national media to descend upon Rutgers and camp out on the dorm lawn? They didn't ask to meet with Imus...they could have said 'screw you, no.' They agreed to a meeting. They were asked what they wanted out of the meeting, they said they didn't know. They had a press conference so they could address the media as a team. They put faces on the 'nappy headed hos.' They didn't ask for the attention, and it seems impossible that anyone would criticize them for responding to it.

Honest question. What percentage of the American public do you think was really offended by what Don Imus said? What about Tim Hardaway and his comments? I am in no way trying to defend Imus, I have never at one point found him entertaining and do not agree with his comments . However my guess would be that many, many people in our country don't see anything wrong with what he said and were perhaps thinking the same thing about the Rutgers team. I think that many, many people agree to some extent with Hardaway. In fact I would guess that about 50% of the public would not think twice about Imus's comments or Hardaway's comments, except for the fact that they know they "should be " offended. Am I way off base in my assesment of the American public?

I think we're missing the point.

Don Imus on his nationally syndicated radio and television show used racial and sexual slurs on women who did nothing to him for cheap laughs.

How would the esteemed Mr. Imus feel if someone called him and his family cave-dwelling, inbred rednecks for shits and giggles?

Speaking of assholes who say disgusting things in public, how's Isaiah Washington doing? I mean, since the NAACP gave him an Image Award. Did Mr. Gordon try to take the award back?

Serious question Badger Beer: Why would anyone who knows little or nothing about the Rutgers women's basketball team think they were "nappy-headed hos?"

Glad to see the "uppity women should just shut up" brigade is out. There's no way a woman can win. If she speaks out, she's an attention whore. If she says nothing, people think it's OK to say foul, disgusting things about her.

Why learn when you can watch RU women's hoops for five minutes and make a snap judgement on the type of people that make up the team?
