Cocktails, Spirits and Mixology Thread

I started a Foodie thread already, and this is related, but I think it deserves its own thread.

I've recently become obsessed with craft cocktails, small batch spirits, and mixology.

    So, to kick it off...

What do we think of barrel aged gin?

    I'm not sure I'd like barrel-aged gin.

However, I will note that Campari with gin is a delicious cocktail.

Campari is just too bitter for me. I've not liked a single drink I've tried to make with it.

Any other suggestions for it? I've got a nearly full bottle of it.

    The home bar:

As I use up some of the mass market brands, I'm planning on replacing them with local distillers like Koval, Few, North Shore, Death's Door, etc.

I'll try it, but I'm not sure I'm going to like it.

I can't stand the word mixology, or worse, places that call their bartenders mixologists. Makes me want to stab someone in the eye with a toothpick full of olives.

    That is all.

That is a delicious cocktail. I've had it. I didn't know it was called a dark horse.

    Bartenders and mixologists are different.

It's the same difference as between a cook, and a chef.

Sorry. Not really. He sounds like a really good bartender. Thankfully, he didn't refer to himself as a "mixologist." His eye is safe from me.
