I don't think anyone is going to use "last time" as a guide. Anderson wasn't hired based on his coaching resume anyway. He was hired because he was an alum who wouldn't leave after two good years.

If Mizzou is going to hire a Valley coach, this is the year to pry Jacobson out of Northern Iowa. He's in the middle of a rebuild.

After the Kim debacle, I can't even imagine them reaching into a mid-major. They'll have to find a Power 5 coach who may be on the way out. Crean? I doubt it. Cuonzo Martin makes perfect sense - coached at Missouri State, his presence can mitigate some of the issues on campus. Also he is from East STL originally. Perhaps that can help recruit STL, which mizzou has never really gotten top talent from.

Alford used to coach a Missouri school.

Within the conference they'll be competing against LSU and maybe Georgia in the coaching market. And while Mizzou at its best is a destination job and the other two aren't, a hot young coach could have an easier time winning at one of the other two and potentially flipping that into a really elite job.

The unrealistic expectations level around Mizzou basketball boggles my mind. Their fans act as if they have the same basketball pedigree as Kentucky.

The Winthrop guy may get a shot at NC State

Penn State announced Pat Chambers will be back next season. That program is so far off the radar I hadn't even considered it being a potential major conference opening.

At the absolute minimum shouldn't they expect to be in the top half of the conference every year

In the SEC? I don't think that's entirely unreasonable.

Who acts like that? Believe me, we don't think that.

But it has been a solid top-25 program for more than 40 years. Granted, it's no UAB, but there's plenty of opportunity for a good coach.

Since Norm Stewart left, Mizzou has tried out just about every coaching option.

Hot young assistant/former player. Didn't work.
Mid-major coach/longtime assistant. Did work until he went home Arkansas, which finally was done with that mid-major bullshit after Heath and Pelphrey.
Coach one stepahead of the NCAA. Didn't work.
Native son/small college coach. Didn't work as Kim Anderson to Mizzou was Todd Lickliter to Iowa. Playing what I call "13-seed basketball" every night.

There is one option left: the failed NBA coach trying to go back to college. Fred Hoiberg... Mizzou on line 1. If not him, there's always Eddie Jordan.

This is where Mizzou going to the SEC kills men's basketball. Just write off Kansas City recruiting if family watching you live is important. Mizzou has never recruited St. Louis well. That means you're left with Jucos and 6-6 forwards from Moberly or Rolla who could have starred at Central Missouri.

Money plays THE role in college sports but I'll never understand why Mizzou didn't come crawling to the Big Ten a few years ago. You'd still have rivalries with Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois and maybe Indiana.
