He was one passing TD shy of the NCAA career record. He got three in the first half.

(There’s also an excellent chance he loses the record to Dillon Gabriel.)

What is more jarring is that Nebraska considers this a successful season. I remember when Bo Pellini and Frank Solich were fired after far more successful seasons.

Nebraska just went through seven consecutive losing seasons. If their fans didn’t celebrate this they’d get ripped for being delusional and ungrateful.

A thing I’ve come to understand is there is nothing you can do as a fan of a traditional powerhouse that won’t offend somebody’s sensibilities.

Whoever does the "creative" for the PopTarts Bowl should be getting a raise, a promotion - and really should go out on their own and consult on adding some juice to corporate sponsored sports events to ensure they get some play.

I imagine NASCAR could use him or her.

NASCAR (and the PGA Tour) would kill their soul within months, if not weeks, after tsk-tsking, changing or spiking ideas.

Fans of a team with seven straight losing seasons are (not unreasonably) a bit sensitive about it. Those Nebraska fans are painfully aware of how far their program has fallen.

I need you to hop on a Zoom call with the cluster of Nebraska fans in my work world, NC.

I do love the idea of a googly-eyed mascot running around Augusta being chased by green-jackets displacing and breaking their hips at every turn.

Nah, I ain't putting my foot in that bear trap. I live in Alabama. Between the Almighty Tahd, Auburn, and UAB I am intimately acquainted with the bizarre beliefs of irrational fan bases.
