I mean, moving from Squidbillies territory to Seattle, maybe be a fly on the wall for a few months before showing off your hot takes.

Good to know that Twitter is still a 280-character pink slip lying in wait.

Always enjoyed Lewis Grizzard quoting that whenever talking about people, especially northern transplants, bitching about Atlanta.

The guy has an impressive portfolio of international reporting, focusing especially on Asia, so I can see why The Times took him on. His bio says he's the son of immigrants; Volodzko is likely a Ukrainian surname. The Ukrainians suffered mightily under Stalinism/Leninism, and many viewed the Nazis as liberators in WWII.

I can't find the column online, but one of the Twitter posts indicates he went into some detail on the history of his family. That might have lent some interesting insight to his position. That the ensuing debate on Twitter would quickly go off the rails was inevitable. Mud wrestling is not his forte.

Judging from his work history, Volodzko will probably be OK despite this fiasco.

Will Geoff Baker be here to tell us he really has no idea why this guy was fired?

I have no inside information from the Times, but from the overall picture it seems like he got fired because he tried to debate people on Twitter.
