Yeah, Duffy and Manaea should be able to help someone, I would think.

My trade got vetoed overnight, which I'm pretty pissed about. We've had this league for 15 years and never had a trade vetoed. We've largely taken a hands-off approach to trades in the past. Generally, the league philosophy is that as long there's no appearance that managers have some sort of side deal (i.e., one manager trades a bunch of studs to a contender for peanuts and splits the profits with the winner), the deal will go through. We don't try to save managers from themselves. It's never been an issue until now.

Several of the guys have stuck up for the trade, saying they don't think it should have been vetoed. Strangely, the people who vetoed it have not spoken out against the trade.

It's tough in a league that has lasted so long, but I would make complain and make sure the owners who voted against it explain themselves. For a league to last that long without a veto, there better be a damn good reason when it happens. The deal makes sense to me, studs for you now and big keeper value for the other team.

I've been in my keeper league almost as long. The league is actually a little older than yours. I joined two or three years in. We've had exactly one trade vetoed in all that time and it was one of mine. Back when Rich Harden was a very good pitcher and Jose Reyes hadn't done anything yet, mostly due to injury, I got Harden for Reyes. The justification was that they thought I was taking advantage of a Mets fan. Eventually, after discussion involving most of the league, the commissioner reversed his decision and let it go through. Of course, that turned out to be a terrible deal for me .

A good league that lasts a long time should be able to handle an honest discussion regarding a veto.

There were some epic vetoes and consequences in an old SJ.com league. Some here will remember the legend of Shawn Green.

It was a trade I didn't accept that brought me to join up here instead of lurking. ChrisL (he was still a bastard back then) was angry and yelling here because I wouldn't trade him the star Red Sox that I ended up with after the draft.

Yeah, I made the complaint, explained the justification and offered to show screenshots of our negotiations. Nary a peep from the guys who vetoed.

The guys who support the trade think the other guy is an idiot, but as I mentioned, we've never vetoed trades to stop a dumb one from going through. And, frankly, I don't think this is a dumb trade for him. Bellinger and Conforto are among the most valuable keepers in the league based on production and draft position, and the other two could become studs at some point as well.

We're going to probably make the trade again and see if it gets vetoed again.

Sounds like a good solution. I'd keep doing it until the trade goes through or guys who veto it explain themselves because they sure seem to be in the wrong.

Someone dropped Schwarber in my CBS league, and I'm not sure I can justify picking him up.

Someone else picked up Schwarber today and now I'm wondering if I blew it. He doesn't have C eligibility in CBS leagues, so I think it's OK.

On another note, in my Yahoo league, I reworked the big trade with the other manager and, almost 24 hours later, it still has not been vetoed. He came back asking for big upgrades in the guys I offered, but I kept turning him down. My argument was that I was pretty comfortable with my roster as is, and the only reason I even considered trading Bellinger was to get the big haul. He asked for guys like Severino, Machado and Hamels.

Eventually, I gave him Souza instead of Frazier, which I was actually pretty happy about because I think Frazier is going to be the better player.

Long story short, I acquire Harper/Goldschmidt/Scherzer/Wood for Bellinger/Conforto/Souza/Honeywell, assuming the trade goes through overnight.

I assume you mean Clint Frazier, not Todd? I agree there.

I wouldn't worry that much about Schwarber. He is hitting better lately, but the real upside for him is if he is eligible at catcher. Otherwise, there is so much power available, it's not a killer.

It is always tough to cut guys like that. I finally had to give up on Villar this weekend and it makes me nervous. But I've been burying all those 0-for-5's on my bench and I couldn't do it any longer with Turner and Owings out, so he had to go. I also gave up on Josh Bell to early and I think he's going to end up being a keeper in my (much deeper) league. It happens. Then again, I balanced those mistakes with pick-ups like Owings, Alex Wood, Filipe Rivero and Domingo Santana. It's just part of the game.

    Yes, Clint, not Todd.

Anybody do any prospecting with the recent call-ups? I'd previously traded away Amed Rosario in one league and missed him in a second, but managed to grab him in my third league. I jumped in on Ozzie Albies for the Braves in the other two. Dominic Smith (1B, Mets) is gone in one league, but I'm considering adding him in the others.

I'm waiting for a couple guys to pitch this week and I may add Lucas Sims from the Braves, who gave up 3 ER in 6 IP against the Dodgers in his MLB debut last night.

Somebody beat me to Albies, though I'm guessing he is going to be more useful down the road than this season. All of those guys are gone in my league. My league is insanely focused on youngsters.

Agree on Albies, but I'm hoping he shows enough this season that he's worth keeping. I've got basically no bona fide keepers except maybe Severino and Wood. My lineup is set, though, to the point that I basically just have to insert starting pitchers, so I'm pretty much filling out all my bench slots with fliers on young guys - Happ, Dahl, Albies, Reynaldo Lopez - and hoping one or two of them hit.
