Willson Contreras is on the DL, likely for the bulk of the remaining fantasy season, so I need to pick up Alex Avila to fill in at catcher. I'm planning to keep Contreras next year, so I need to cut one of the following four prospects: Rhys Hoskins, Dominic Smith, Ian Happ or Bradley Zimmer. Zimmer and Happ haven't exploded offensively thus far, but they both look like they belong, so I lean heavily toward keeping them. Hoskins and Smith both just got promoted and pretty much anybody's guess.

I agree that you should hold Happ and Zimmer. I like Hoskins, but I'm not great with the prospect evaluations.

It's fuckin' hard, or else anyone could be an MLB GM, right? I think Zimmer is going to be a multiple-tool stud and Happ will be among the best power-hitting 2B in the league once Zobrist gets out of dodge.

As far as Smith and Hoskins go, I decided to bet on stories I've read where Smith's power is a bit of a surprise since he got to Vegas. Hoskins seems to be a better pure power hitter from what I'm reading, so I kept him and dropped Smith. I'll be keeping an eye on him, though.

Funny part is, while the PCL has traditionally inflated prospects' numbers, it has lately mirrored the hitting environment in MLB more closely than any of the other minor leagues.

Looks like I'm going to lock up a playoff berth in my dynasty league - the one where I have the second-most points scored and the most points against with a 10-9 record - so I'm breathing a sigh of relief there. Debating dropping Bradley Zimmer and picking up Byron Buxton. Zimmer hasn't played much and has done nothing over the last month, while Buxton is red hot.

I'm not sure Buxton will ever be what people thought he would become, while I think Zimmer has a chance to improve greatly with increased playing time (hopefully) next season. This is probably the time of year to ride the hot hand, but I'd hate to give up on Zimmer and have Buxton flame out again.

I've got a bunch of guys on the DL, so I need some OF production, at least until Sano comes back next weekend.

17-1 and going to lose in the the semifinals of my league, probably by one, because my lineup went in the toilet and is barely hitting .200 this week.

That is a tough call, though Buxton is still only 23 years old. I grabbed him in my keeper league and I'll have to at least give some consideration to holding on to him. He finished strong last year, too, so he is at least a decent bet to help you the rest of the way. If you need another bat now, make the move.

Sometimes you have to make the move that gives you a shot now. I had to pick up a couple of scrub starters for this coming week because it is the opening round of our playoffs and I had seven players on the DL, including five starting pitchers. We have five DL spots, but I'm still struggling just to put a viable starting staff in the lineup. I have to hope Matt Moore and Mark Leiter give me something decent and maybe I get some arms back for the second round.

Yes, I know those are crappy options. But we have seven starting pitchers active each week and even after cutting one injured pitcher, I've got Paxton, Wood, Lester and Duffy on the DL.

Buxton hit three homers tonight. Guess I have to pick him up :)

I had seen that before I replied. I'm still not sure what to make of him, but the power/speed combination sure is fun .

I'm especially wary because I've read for so long how good Buxton is going to be, but he hasn't yet fulfilled that promise. If I were out of the race, I'd probably hang onto Zimmer. I'm not entirely sure why other than I've been burned by Buxton in the past. But given that I think I have a shot at winning this league, I have to go with the guy who is scoring points in bunches right now. If it turns out to be a bad decision for seasons down the road, oh well.

People forget that Buxton is only 23. He's also a fantastic defensive player. That may not help your fantasy team directly, but it will keep him in the lineup when he struggles.

A bit of a tough spot here.

Two-week semifinal where the lineup has to be set by today. Carlos Correa is expected back by Friday, but who knows if he has a late setback in rehab. Even if he does get back, he gets nine games max. Was really tempted to put him in, but the possibility of taking a bunch of days of zeros if he has a setback has me thinking I should stick with Marwin Gonzalez, who I at least know is going to play.

Basically, if I play Correa, something weird will happen and he'll only play five or six games. If I play Gonzalez, Correa will come back early and terrorize pitching and make me look foolish for sitting him. Ugh.

Sorry I didn't see this in time. I would have gone with Gonzalez. He has been productive and you have to wonder how long it will take Correa to get back up to speed once he returns. Given the risk of lost playing time, I think you have to sit Correa in that case.

I'm surprised your league doesn't allow lineup changes for the second week. My league with weekly lineups has a two-week championship series, but we can make changes for the second week.
