FBC Week 8 thread: What the Buck (Belue)

This is pretty entertaining.

Asper said the call when the snap count is on two may be "Mickelson," because golfer Phil Mickelson "always comes in second." Et cetera.

--I reallly, reallly want Missouri to live up to the recent hype by winning at home against Oklahoma. The Tigers seem to be hitting their stride, and I think they truly have some depth of talent on the d-line for the first time since Pinkel has been there. And I reallly, reallly hope Aldon Smith is healthy enough to return and make an impact. But Mizzou has not met anything close to the Landry Jones/Ryan Broyles duo, and not to mention Murray and Madu providing a running game that can't be ignored. And I think OU has the athletes on defense to keep Missouri's ball-control passing game in check. Throw in Mizzou's utter failures in recent ABC night games against Texas and OU, and I see a blowout, unless Missouri can unfurl a pass rush. Well, Mizzou did unfurl a pass rush.
--I reallly, reallly want Auburn to win against LSU, to make the Iron Bowl a potentially epic matchup. But I think LSU can keep Newton in check, and the luck thing seems to be majorly with the Tigers. So, LSU in a close one. Well, a close one, anyway.
--If UCLA were at home, I would say it could be a trap game for Oregon on Thursday. But it's at Oregon, so the Ducks will easily prevail in whatever monstrosity Phil Knight dresses them in. Bingo, especially the last part.
--I reallly, reallly want Northwestern to win at home against Michigan State
(and I think that secretly, most of michSportsJournalists.com wants that too). But Northwestern just isn't good enough.Schweet!
--I think Baylor will beat K-State by about 10-14 points. Not really sold on the Snyders yet. Not too far off
--I reallly, reallly want Oklahoma State to win at home against Nebraska. But....I think the T. Boones will do it.Boo!
--If I stay awake, I think I will see Iowa edge Wisconsin. Moot point; didn't stay awake
--I think Alabama will shirtstomp Tennessee[/zagoshe] So schweet, I feel like starting a flame war
--Kansas will lose by less than 50 points. Oz celebrates
--I think TCU will rout Air Force Bingo!

Auburn DT Nick Fairley is an animal. He's knocked out quarterbacks in back-to-back weeks.
But when he purposely, just before the tackle, picks ballcarriers up and flings them toward the ground, he's telling officials that he's trying to injure someone.
He's a beast, sure, but he has a violent streak that coaches need to address.

Well, that celebration was offset by what happened Saturday night in Columbia, Mo. No celebrating here until someone hands Mizzou a loss.

C'mon, now, wouldn't you want to be the one to give Mizzou its first loss, to return the favor for 2007? And you really want to be rooting for Nebraska or, if it somehow comes down to it, Kansas State?

If Mizzou starts 5-0, I want it to finish 5-7; and if Mizzou starts 8-0, I want it to finish 8-4, etc. I would much rather root for Nebraska or K-State in a heartbeat, though admittedly, Nebraska would be the easiest of the three.

Besides, I'm not holding out any hope of KU knocking off Mizzou this season. If the Jayhawks finished with last year with seven straight losses with its most prolific QB in school history and two NFL wide receivers, yeah, no chance this season.

Run-of-the-mill Auburn recruit.

Can't WAIT for the sanctions. Can't wait.

PS: Just as Boise State/TCU's chances for the title game took a dive last week, they took a little upswing yesterday. I assume that no BCS conference teams can be unbeaten for either school to have a shot, or at the very most, one BCS school can be unbeaten.
Of the BSC conference unbeatens, Oregon has Southern Cal on the road this week, Missouri faces a rematch with Oklahoma in the BCS title game to name just one hazard, Michigan State has Iowa on the road this week, and Auburn has Alabama and an SEC title game to win in succession to stay unbeaten.
Those are tough chores. In Auburn and Missouri's cases, daunting chores.

If the Iron Bowl is undefeated Auburn against one-loss Alabama, TCU and Boise are screwed, because the winner of that game will be either number one or number two. And if the winner of that game wins the SEC title game (which it should), it'll play for the title. And, FWIW, I'm assuming Oregon goes undefeated. Healthy, the Ducks are head and shoulders above everyone else in that league.

If a one-loss Alabama or no-loss Auburn wins the SEC it deserves to play in the championship game ahead of an unbeaten Boise or TCU.

If an unbeaten Oregon wins the Pac-10 it deserves to play in the championship game ahead of an unbeaten Boise or TCU.

Don't see how Boise or TCU are screwed. They don't deserve to play in the championship game ahead of any of those three teams in either of those scenarios.

Neither would an unbeaten Mizzou or Michigan State or a one-loss Oklahoma or Nebraska.

And Missouri, Michigan State and TCU aren't running the table anyway.

If an unbeaten Boise is passed over for a once-beaten Alabama team then it exposes college football's bowl system for the total fraud it is. One of the arguments people like to make is that the whole regular season is a playoff, which is why a real playoff isn't needed. Well, if a team goes undefeated, and after starting the season ranked third in the country, still misses out at a chance for the national title, then it's all exposed as a fraud.

If Bama wants in the national title game it should make sure they aren't pounded by a team that loses to Kentucky.

Given who Boise plays vs. who Alabama plays, it absolutely makes sense. Boise is good but Alabama is better.
