Best golf week of the year is upon us. And with women members now at Augusta!

The usual plotlines. Good to see Rory find a bit of his game the past couple of days. Tiger's got three wins on courses he dominates. Of course, after his rout in 1997, the King thought he'd win as many as Jack and Arnie -- combined. Yet, it's been eight years since El Tigre has donned the green jacket -- the miracle chip-in on 16 and beating Chris DiMarco in a playoff.

A Rory-Tiger-Phil masterpiece theater on Sunday would be outstanding.

I'm looking forward to seven straight days of AP leads about Tiger and Rory.

  4. I'm looking for reporters justifying taking a free round of golf at Augusta.

Shouldn't we just transform the Final Four thread into the Masters thread since CBS does?

Tiger won an amazing 4 times between '97-'05 and none since. I believe he kind of lost his power advantage for a while but seems to have harnessed it now and reestablished an edge. However, it all comes back to putting. He's got to be saying "thank you Steve (not you Stevie)".

Is Wie close to qualifying yet? Thought that was her goal.

Nah, it comes back to driving the ball for Woods. Always. He's gotta drive the ball really well for least three rounds because he doesn't have the ability to stop and spin the holy shit out of the ball on Augusta greens like he used to unless he's good off the tee.

Tiger wins his majors on Friday and Saturday. It has been very hard since the knee rebuild to put two good Friday-Saturday rounds together.

Tiger hasn't won since '05 and obviously the course changes made it tougher for him to dominate like he did from 97-05, but worth noting that since that victory he's finished T3, T2, 2, T6, T4, T4 T40. So it's not like he's been far off. And agree with Alma, those Saturdays were always when he either solidified a lead or put himself in front. Last year it wasn't even really weekend collapses in the majors -- it was Saturday.

The two main elements of victory at Augusta are 1. Putting (same as every tournament, but it's harder to do there) and 2. Putting the drive in the fairway on the par 5s so you can go for the green in two. It is notable how many Masters were won with clutch eagles (or in one case, a double-eagle).
Woods putted lights out in his last two wins, but predicting putting makes handicapping greyhound races look easy.

Can anyone imagine what what the news cycle will look like if he wins? And what about if he wins going away?

I think there is a board full of people who easily can imagine that.

This is the one week of the year where Nantzy can deserve to act like the baddest sumamabitch on the planet.

Call the Final Four one weekend, the Masters the next.
