Yeah, he does that. It's one of the few clubs he has in his bag, along with obsessive behavior and narcissism. Too bad outofbrains is about as original and clever as a Wayans brothers movie, or he'd actually be entertaining, in a performance art kind of way.

Now fetch, Pavlov. Fetch. Good boy.

    So in other political news......

A deal on immigration appears close in the Senate. Who knows the exact rules right now, because they apparently don't. But it's not taking long for something to happen there. Smart move by the GOP there. We'll see if the House can fuck it up though. You can't put it past them.

In Maryland, stricter gun control measures are suddenly running into privacy concerns when it comes to mental health. The article linked here says it's a lot easier to be banned from owning a gun in otherwise gun-loving, from my cold, dead hands Virginia than it is in Maryland. http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/md-politics/maryland-faces-a-liberals-dilemma-on-mental-health-and-gun-control/2013/01/25/3428681e-61b4-11e2-a389-ee565c81c565_story.html

However, that'll change as soon as the governor realizes whatever the rules are in New York. After all, he has to keep up with Governor Cuomo up there as they jockey for position in 2016. BTW, the Maryland governor is a wimp. I'd love to watch the 2016 race with him in it for just the fun and hijinks.

And lastly, Virginia is apparently not going to award electoral votes based on congressional districts. On the one hand, even though Obama won the popular vote there last year, Romney would have taken 9 of the 13 electoral votes in Virginia under that change. Some of the smarter Republicans saw it for what it was -- an undermining of democracy. It would have also rendered Virginian irrelevant in future elections, since candidates would no long bother making stops there just to pick up an electoral vote or two. Last year all I fucking saw were commercials about how good/evil Romney/Obama were. Hmmmm, maybe the TV networks helped kill it?

    Re: THE 2012 POLITICS THREAD

Someone asked me the other day how long this would stay open and I said we saw no need to close it, it has mostly been trouble free and it would stay open as long as it stayed that way.

So I make a rare check today and I see one poster using the "c" word - and being real cute with his spaces to get around the autoswitch.

    Wow.

Let's be clear: Under no circumstances is that OK and if I see it again, the thread will be done and so will the poster. Totally unacceptable in any form. Police yourselves folks, if you want this to continue.

Also, let me remind you it is NOT anything goes on any poster you wish to flame here. If they're not part of the discussion, you can't throw out a random attack. That'll get this one locked up, too, if I see it again.

The overwhelming majority of you can handle this and handle it well. We appreciate that, a lot. Don't let a couple of dumbfucks spoil it for you.

I find that court ruling against Obama on the NLRB recess appointments to be interesting. So does this mean that no president can make a recess appointment as long as one or two senators are hanging out in Washington and gaveling the body into order?

If that's the case, then whoever is president should demand the confirmation hearings of their appointments during the recesses. Make them work for their money.

The president can't demand confirmation hearings, and he certainly can't set their schedule. The confirmation process has a lot of flaws in how it all works, but that's not one of them, I don't think.

The GOPbags of course won't allow anybody nominated by the SMN for anything to be confirmed, at all, under any circumstances.

So much for the new era of cooperation and goodwill Harry Reid put his trust into, before punting on 1st-and-goal from the 4-yard line on the issue of eliminating the filibuster (which of course the GOPbags will do instantly and unconditionally the second they ever take control of the Senate again. And when it happens the Dems will be stunned and shocked and horrified).

This is why Dems lose. They punt, and punt, and punt some more.

Democratic Senator Tom Harkin of Iowa said on Saturday he will not seek re-election in 2014, saying he felt that after 40 years in Congress, it will be "somebody else's turn."

Harkin, 73, is one of the most liberal senators and has focused much of his long congressional career on farm policy and legislation aiding people with disabilities.

Iowa, site of the early presidential caucuses, is considered a political swing state, putting Democrats' long-held Senate seat at risk. Republican Charles Grassley is Iowa's other U.S. senator.

Wait for the appeals process to run its course.

The President can call a special session, so maybe he should just get Senators to stick around D.C. to consider nominations instead of going summer or winter break.

That's not to say those pro forma sessions still couldn't be declared a sham by the Supremes. Bush never challenged it, so there was no legal precedent.
