The CAA's had some sicko bad beats lately. William & Mary won 61-60 with a last-second bucket last night, but didn't cover the 1 1/2-point spread (and intercepted an in-bounds pass with four seconds left, but the guy flung the ball in the air to kill the clock instead of covering up and getting fouled). UNCW was a 2 1/2-pt favorite last week and won 81-79 in double OT. Towson was a 4 1/2-point favorite over Monmouth last week and won 75-69.
Yeah, they're legit. Takayo Siddle is a fantastic coach...an old-school hard-ass, so it took him a couple years to find his guys. I'm not sure he'll play at a higher level b/c of that and the no-bullshit persona that won't play with the good ol' boy donors, but someone should absolutely take a chance this spring.
I’m old enough to remember when Siddle played at Gardner Webb. Tonight’s HH debauchery: Dartmouth -2.5 at home vs Columbia. Go Big Green!
On a little bit of a run here ... took my traditional 3-leg nooner with Arkansas +8.5, Clemson -4.5, Miami +11.5. Clemson killed FSU, but the other two were fucking squeaky. Arkansas especially. I'm screaming at the TV for them not to foul down 8 with less than 10 seconds left. Thankfully aTm dribbled it out. Whew.
Today in hilariously bad beats or pushes (depending on your book): Northeastern was either -11 or -11 1/2 against Stony Brook. Huskies were up 29 with under 12 minutes left...and won 71-60.
Buffalo unders have paid off for me three times. Once again today against Bowling Green, and none of them within 30 points of the number.
Another example of maybe the biggest reason I've soured on betting on basketball. No lead is safe. I was on the right side of one of those a couple weeks ago, though. Southern Miss was down 27 against Troy with nine minutes left and came back to cover an 11.5-point spread.
Pepperdine/Gonzaga total 162.5. It’s 100-52 with 4:32 left. It’s 105-53 with 2:02 left. It’s 107-55 with 1:24 left. And that’s how it ends. Five points in the final four-and-half minutes. Over bettors must be sick. I almost took the under and I’m sick.
