There are 32 pages on Gannett layoffs. Each topic should get its own thread since who wants to wade through all of it.

Got no problem with a new thread. Gannett friend of mine was talking about it tonight, I never made the connection that this deal pretty much affects every Gannettoid out there except union members and everyone in Detroit, right?

Unions are being asked to comply with this or get targeted for layoffs.

Doubly sucks for the husband and wife teams that both work for Mother Gannett.

Everyone at my wife's magazine took 2 percent pay cuts a few months ago. It sucked, but now it seems infinitely more dignified and pragmatic than this.

I would prefer a 2% paycut over a year's time, but consider this: this way Gannett gets to collect on all of that 2% in two and a half months' time instead spreading it out over 12 months.

And that's not to say it isn't going to happen in the second, third or fourth quarters either
