The reply, especially the bit about being shocked over the “couple all but having sex” full page ad sneaking into the paper, cracked me up.

Yeah, I’m sure no one in the ad department had any idea what was in the ad before they approved it.

They’re really no better than strung out junkies in the newspaper advertising department these days — they’ll stick anything in their arm, and the paper.

At least they didn’t cost Pearl a scholarship.

Our local paper would run paid pet obits once a month until sold to a hedge fund. Just for me the heck of it, showed one to someone in my newsroom at the time. They laughed, then admonished me NOT to show it to the publisher.

I'd like to see the full page ad with the "couple all but having sex” to further the discussion.

  12. The editor’s “apology” article was fine. It was sincere. And I appreciate the fact it was written, because I’m all for more transparency into how journalism is made, warts and all.

I do feel sorry for Pearl’s family, though. They just tried doing a nice thing to memorialize their pet. As a fellow animal lover, I get it. And it is unfortunate this family was tangled up into this.
