Dusty roads, Robert Johnson, Cotton fields, Willie Morris,Grand pappies, Civil Rights and Archie Manning. Missing - searing sun of noon shining on court house and train whistles in the distance.

I don't mean it in a bad way but yes all the cliches are all there in Wright Thompson's long form piece on the simultaneous rise of Rebel and Bulldog football. Personally I love the genre but just pointing out that there is a comfortable sameness to it

It must be a requirement when writing long form on Mississippi to mention certain things

Yeah, read this when it came out about a month ago.

I hated it. Enough with the fucking personal narrative. For someone who only writes a handful of stories a year, this is garbage.

A good editor would make him re-write this shit without the I, I, I, I.

He's a tremendous talent, but he needs to be reeled in or to quit journalism and write novels.

He's full of shit. Anyone who saw the worst 30 for 30 that has been done knows he's full of shit.

I don't see what Ice Cube has to do with this discussion, but I guess I get your point.

Nice little gem: Nate Dogg and Tennessee Williams grew up in the same small Delta town.

So what? There's no thread on it from what I could tell.

BTW - two other important elements to the Miss. genre

Delta and Labs with one syllable name like "Bone"
