That's not what I'm saying. I'm just taking issue to the idea that fewer guns would make us safer.

EDIT: Having re-read my original post, I realize that I actually was saying more guns would make us safer. But I'm rapidly sobering up. I stand by what I said in this current post.

  2. You do know virtually everybody in Switzerland owns a gun. What are their murder statistics like?

    Hmmm.

I had forgotten that the author of "Freakonomics" has written that he disagrees with the conclusions of the author of "More Guns, Less Crime," based on his analysis (as an economist) of the research that went into that book.

And, also, it appears the author of "Guns" has filed suit against the "Freakonomics" author as a result.

So I'm moving this to the "open agenda item" pile.

How is asking a question about Switzerland's murder statistics a "leap in logic"?

There is no conclusion there, just a question.

    I see.

I guess I was focused on you directing a statement to Bostock calling it "Your conclusion", when it was Wingman who had made a conclusion. Bostock only asked a smart-aleck question.

In any case, I agree that it takes a leap in logic to say that more guns make us safer.

  6. I don't think any conclusion was stated. Not by me, at least.

If Switzerland's murder rate isn't comparable to that of the U.S., however, maybe other things are at work here.

Thanks for jumping to conclusions, however. And there's nothing smart-aleck about the question.

  7. True. Then restricting gun ownership here certainly is not a panacea, like some others here believe.

I'm not sure how much off-topic this is, but most of these countries with the tougher gun laws and lower murder rates don't have the death penalty. I think Japan is the only country in this group that has it.

bs buck. the freakin' problem isn't guns, it's the people.

i guess, way back in 2000, we shoulda made it illegal to hijack airplanes. who knew?

  10. So assuming Switzerland has a low murder rate, how is that possible if everybody there has a gun?

fucking Israel sure could avoid a lotta problems if it just outlawed bombs.

    Handgun? I don't think so.
