Have You Ever Won The Lottery?

I was driving home today after visiting a friend last night when I stopped at a convenient store to get a drink. I was all ready to check out when I got stuck behind some guy buying his round of scratch tickets and Powerball tickets. I think he bought something like $100 worth of tickets and Powerballs, too.

That got me to thinking.

Any sjers ever win the lottery? And not like five dollars. I mean maybe $500, maybe over $1,000? Six figures?

I remember when I was in high school and I worked at the local gas station, I sold some guy a ticket that he ended up winning $5,000 on. Unfortunately, he blew it all; on what, I have no idea.

He sold his car dealership and I never saw him again.

 

If we won the lottery we'd be former sports journalists.

 

At times I feel like I just won Shirley Jackson's lottery

 

I've won the Nigerian lottery about a dozen times.

 

I've won a certain genetics lottery. 8)

 

Best I've ever done was hitting the Powerball once.
Not the jackpot, the actual powerball. You get something like $6 for it.
When I was still in high school I'd sometimes buy a scratch-off ticket or two at the local supermarket. I guess I looked old enough. One time, I bought one and won a free ticket. Instead of driving home and back and getting my sister to redeem it, I rolled the dice and went back inside. They redeemed it, so I got another ticket and scratched it off. Another free ticket. Next ticket nets something like $2, so I get two more tickets. One of those wins yet another free ticket, another is worth $5. I keep getting tickets and keep winning for about 10 minutes. Nothing more than $10, but it was still amazing to see so many winning tickets come off the same strip right in a row.

 

Yes I have won the lottery. That's why I continue to work at a newspaper.

 

My step dad plays scratch-off tickets every day. I mean EVERY day. So a couple years ago, we found these fake lottery tickets where you "win" like 10 grand or something crazy and gave them to him for Xmas.

He didn't know what to do after he scratched off the winning ticket. He went nuts. Not sure how my mom kept a straight face while he was scratching the ticket. Funny stuff.

 

Don't play often, usually if my wife and I are stopping for gas on a road trip. Won $50 on a $1 ticket once. That's my best win.

My dad did that to his best friend one night at a bar ... best laugh most of us ever had.
