No names attached yet, but Season 2 will have three leads and will be set in California:

I just finished this, and McConaughey was amazing. Just fantastic. His timing delivering lines either on top of what Woody said or after a pause is astounding.

Nobody does crazy Texan better than McConaughey. Hell, McConaughey might be the best thing going today when you look at Mud, DBC, Wolf and TD. Fuck, that's some run.

They really needed to explain why Woody's oldest daughter was a stereotype for a sexually abused child. I wonder if something got left on the cutting room floor?

Didn't see this anywhere else, but apparently Season 2 of True Detective is going to star Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch as the two cops. Elisabeth Moss is going to play the female lead and Vince Vaughn will play the villain.

Wow, watch that first step, it's a doozy. That's a steep drop from McConaghey/Harrelson. One that could spell the end for the series if those two don't bring some serious A game.

In the end, the first season of TD was a pretty formulaic cop show, albeit it hinted having something high-minded in store. To that end, it could have been a letdown, but it was carried by the acting of McConaughey and Harrelson. Not sure Farrell and Kitsch have the talent to carry the show.

Wouldn't you have said that a year ago about McConaughey?

That's true. I don't have a lot of faith in Kitsch, but Farrell has shown in the past he's got decent dramatic chops.

He suffers from the same problem Brad Pitt has to a certain extent. He's so good-looking people think there's no way he can be a good actor.

Is Kitsch the guy who played Tim Riggins?

    Yes ... and John Carter.

Presumably, this deep-sixes for a year or so any thought of Vaughn playing Jim Rockford in a movie revival of "The Rockford Files."

I'm not necessarily dead-set against the idea of SOMEBODY doing a Rockford reboot, but I think Vaughn would be a bad pick.

I've actually thought he was a good actor since "A Time to Kill," but I'll concede that he hadn't had many meaty roles between than and probably 2011.

That said, at this point, Colin Farrell is who he is - a fairly average actor who doesn't have the on-screen presence that either McConaughey or Harrelson brought to their roles. Could Kitsch end up breaking out and becoming an Oscar winner? I won't rule it out, but I won't bet on it either.

And I generally like both actors, Kitsch more than Farrell. I just don't think they're good enough to reach the bar that has been set.
