Here comes basketball season!

Discussion in 'Journalism topics only' started by FireJimTressel.com, Oct 17, 2006.

  1. I'm all for the tell-me-your-story threads so I'm going to start one in honor of basketball season being about one month away. What is the best finish you saw in a HIGH SCHOOL basketball game?

Mine went like this: Home team down by two with 7 seconds to go inbounding from half court. PG passes to right corner. Shot hits his side of the rim and bounces to the opposite side of the baseline. Teammate jumps with his back to the left corner, hears teammate in left corner calling for the ball, passes back to him without looking. Kid shoots, buzzer sounds, ball swishes through hoop. Shooter gets bombarded by student section that was directly behind him.

Six overtimes to decide the district championship. By the end of the game each team only had two players on the court because of the foul-outs.

  3. I guess that puts me in my place doesn't it? :D

I remember when Ryan Sonner threw down a game-winning dunk from half court...

  5. Home team down by 1 with 0.6 seconds left and inbonding from the opposite end, and they throw it full court and one of their players jumped and tipped it in.

Michigan's Class B final between Flint Beecher and Saginaw Buena Vista... Absolute dog-shit game, the kind you sleep through -- which both teams did.
Beecher hits a shot late to go up 32-31 and looked like it was going to take its second title over BV in two years.
Buena Vista inbounds the ball to Chris Coles -- son of immortal Miami and Central Michigan coach Charlie Coles -- who takes three steps and heaves the ball from the side hashmark at 3/4 court. Buzzer goes off in mid air, ball drains through the net and Buena Vista wins 33-32.

How is a shot from 3/4-court only worth two points?

I don't think there were 3-pointers in the early-'80s. I could be wrong.

    Personally speaking...

A girl's basketball team wins by about 17. Okay. I head to their locker room to wait for the coach to come out.

After talking to his team, the coach opens the door to the locker room and walks over to talk to me.

    However...

This is a very old gym in the ghetto. So old that the doors don't automatically close behind you.

    He didn't know this.

    Best interview EVER.

Oh yeah, for the record, I was 20 at the time. Making me somewhat less sick.
