I wouldn't phrase it the same as you, but short answer...yup.

I'm not avoiding the rest of this conversation, but I do have to go. We can finish later.

Craig's hypocrisy is a red herring. If we're going to start charging guys in the Beltway with crimes of hypocrisy, he's well down on the list of the indicted. This is a simple matter of it being a very bad idea to solicit anonymous sex in public restrooms when you are a U.S. Senator. You do not get to do that and keep your job ... at least not in Idaho.

How can you be that obtuse?

    Is it deliberate?

What the hell does geometry have to do with this issue, Zeke?

BTW, getting married is not a behavior. The legislation Craig voted in favor of vs. the action he pled guilty to is obviously hypocritical, but he did not "legislate behavior." Sounds good in an argument, but it's not accurate.

This ain't gonna play too well in Pocatello. Or anywhere else in Idaho.

Getting married is not a behavior.

    That's just stupid, pallister.

I think it will play the worst in Midvale.

Sex is a behavior; marriage is not. Yes, it's semantics, but words mean things.

    From dictionary.com:

    Behavior

    1. manner of behaving or acting.
    2. Psychology, Animal Behavior. a. observable activity in a human or animal.
    b. the aggregate of responses to internal and external stimuli.
    c. a stereotyped, species-specific activity, as a courtship dance or startle reflex.

    3. Often, behaviors. a behavior pattern.
    4. the action or reaction of any material under given circumstances: the behavior of tin under heat.

A species-specific activity you say? Such as a courtship ritual?

    You mean, like marriage?

Marriage is the exact definition of a behavior.

    But thanks for playing parse-my-way-around-the-blatantly-obvious-and-then-act-smug-about-it.

    "Words mean things."

    Deep, man.

You're wrong either way, but actually, I'd argue that the privileges of marriage (hospital visitation, power of attorney, etc.) are rights and that supporting legislation to deny those rights is worse. Does it make him a hypocrite? No, not necessarily. But I'd venture to say that he's made any number of speeches vowing to "defend the family" and "protect our values," which are simply code words for getting rid of behavior that happens to deviate from that segment's definition of the norm.
