Jonathan Martin and the Miami Dolphins

Anybody here mention Martin's quote about him attending wimpy schools (Harvard Westlake HS and Stanford)?

It's hard to imagine Stanford as a "wimpy" school, especially since he played for someone who is considered a hardass.

It sounded like he was bullied at Westlake, but not at Stanford.

Like anything else, I know people who have come out of schools like Harvard Westlake who were completely coddled and you can tell and others who went to schools like that and they're every bit as gritty and driven as anyone else. I think it's more of a reflection of the way he was raised than the schools...

Hey, I'm just quoting him: I mostly blame the soft schools I went to…

I'm guessing if you listed teams with the most coaching changes in the last 10-15 years, Miami would be in the top 3... Never a good sign...

For someone who would seem to have everything going for him, how does someone like Martin become a bullying target in high school... If it was an older brother or parent, that would make more sense, but he definitely is not your typical HS bullying victim. In no way does that justify anything that Incognito or any of the other players did to him.

I'd love to see Stephen Ross backed against a wall with questions now.
Backed against the wall until he answers them. Yeah, well, as if he could ... or would.

But, still ... Ross deserves a large share of this humiliation pie.
His franchise keeps douchebagging. ... On the other hand: Celebrity Owners!!!

I'm often surprised how rarely the Dolphins get called out for being one of the worst franchises in the NFL for the last decade plus. I think they get overshadowed by the Lions, Browns and Raiders, but they're right there with them. I think having a rich history and being a popular landing spot for high profile free agents overshadows what a truly terrible organization this is.

Yeah, Miami is such a glamor destination (especially with no L.A. franchise in the league) they can't even help but pick up a couple marquee signings every year.

I think they (and the Raiders) escape total ridicule because they have had stretches of domination in the television era.

The Browns and Lions were big deals in the 50s, but all that remains of that era is blurry newsreel clips. In the memories of anybody not drawing social security, they've pretty much always sucked.

It doesn't help the Browns had middling success in the 80s, along with the Lions making a run to the NFC title game in the early 1990s before the Cowboys won their three Super Bowls. It's led to the delusion the teams are just a step or two away from winning.

Well, the combined number of years since 1965 the Lions and the NFL franchise known as the Cleveland Browns have not sucked can pretty much be counted on your fingers.

But most current NFL fans vaguely remember times from the 1970s-1990s the Dolphins and Raiders were powerhouses and most have seen videos about the 17-0 'Phins of '72.

Agreed all the way.
It really is a shirt show of an organization.
It seemed very unlikely to happen.

So, when do they announce suspensions for Jerry and Pouncey and/or reinstatement for Incognito?

And none of it has stuck to Bill Parcells who was in charge much of that time. Brought in Ireland.

We should remember how a model sports franchise handled a situation where a star player physically assaulted a team employee:

Manny Ramirez shoved Red Sox traveling secretary Jack McCormick to the ground in an argument over Ramirez' ticket allotment. Several onlookers moved quickly to separate the two.

Ramirez had asked McCormick for 16 tickets for Saturday night's Red Sox-Astros game, an unusually high number for day-of-game. In addition to handling all travel details for clubs, traveling secretaries also take player ticket requests for both home and away games.

When McCormick cautioned Ramirez that he might not be able to fulfill his request, Ramirez responded by shouting: "Just do your job!"

An argument ensued and Ramirez pushed McCormick, sending him to the ground.

Later, the two met behind closed doors and Ramirez apologized to McCormick, who accepted the gesture. No further disciplinary action is expected against Ramirez.

Asked on Sunday to comment on the altercation, Ramirez responded: "That's over. We're fine now."

"Sometimes things happen," said Terry Francona, "and when they do, we choose to handle them internally. I'm satisfied with how we handled this."

That's right.
This is the one shirt puddle Parcells left and doesn't get called out on.
