Probably half a dozen people could have played that role and done the script justice. But no one else could have done with it what Rourke did.

The Jumper. There's not a very strong plot to it. It's not something I'd want to read in a book, but it was good for a movie on in the background while surfing around online.

By modern standards, it's all right. Didn't feel as if it was an utter waste of time.

    But, great? By no stretch.

Watched "The Darwin Awards" on Showtime yesterday. Pretty damn funny. Last one in a threater was "Gran Torino," which I thought was outstanding, despite the fact that the AARP couple behind me would not stop talking.

    Shawshank.

  8. Slap Shot. Two nights ago.
    Bonus question (No IMDB'ing):
Name two movies in which Paul Newman and Lindsay Crouse appeared together.

First twenty minutes or so is truly painful. Intermittently amusing, after that, though not above average, by any stretch.

    You're not free . . . they've obviously positioned themselves for a sequel.

Elephant Man. Actually, it's almost over. I saw it as a child, but didn't understand the depth of it at the time. I teared up a little just now at the standing ovation. People can be good to others, really good, but people can also be really bad to others.

The Wrestler. Very, very good. However, I don't see it really taking off or getting much love from the Academy. Are people really going to connect or care about a washed up pro wrestler? Rourke deserves all the praise he's gettting, but I still have doubts about him winning an Oscar for much of the same reasons stated above.

nah - not a waste ... but pushing close. I just felt like, sure, this is based on a true story ... but haven't we seen the godfather already? I know they aren't the same, but maybe it's just because I rewatched the series not too long ago. either way, too long by about 30 minutes.
