Romenesko reporting golf writer Jeff Shain is also out. He covered golf for the Orlando Sentinel and the Tribune chain.

Sickening. Jeff is an all-time good guy.

"Some guy named Palmer with golf scores from Bay Hill! Is that a club near here? Is there an intern or someone to take these?"

Damn. Two straight days of this crappy news.

Editorial cartoonist Dana Summers also kicked out in Orlando.

Readers won't like that a bit. His work has been a daily presence for years.

Romenesko: UPDATE – A tipster reports: “The Orlando Sentinel’s sister paper, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, also had layoffs.” Second tipster: “One position included religion editor. Sports columnist. Assistant. Online worker.”

I find it difficult to believe that two Tribune papers would have layoffs and the others would not...

The Sun-Sentinel cuts seem like an obvious salary dump. Orlando seems like a specific position was eliminated.

They're all salary dumps at this point. Newspapers long ago cut all the fat.

Yep, I'd be jumping anytime the phone rings today if I were a highly paid older writer at the LA Times.
