Mad Men season 7 thread

Discussion in 'Anything goes' started by Steak Snabler, Apr 14, 2014.

  1. I'm not one to start freaking out watching a show, but I started shaking my head violently at the beginning of the scene. I think Moss had a 3-second "is he trying to fuck me" look across her face before standing up, which was perfect.
Thought the fact that scene in "Lou's" office but actually Don's old one from "the Suitcase" was perfect. Maybe their toughest moment now the same place as maybe their most tender. At this point, I'd happily spend an hour a week watching those two read "keeping up with the Kardashians" transcripts.
Anybody have Sopranos finale flashback during the last scene? Wondered if Duck Phillips was gonna come in guns blazing ...
    Great great great episode.

I'm still holding out hope Chauncey the dog stayed alive. Trained in the streets of NYC for six years. All just to come back and exact revenge on Duck Phillips.

The Suitcase was also set around Peggy's birthday if I remember correctly.

Yes, it was. And Mark's ill-advised surprise dinner with her family. And Duck showing up to pinch a loaf on Don's Roger's chair.

Am I the only one who laughed when Ken complained about the difficulty of keeping an eye on his baby?

I like Jon Hamm best as an actor when he doesn't talk. It's amazing what he conveys physically and especially with a look.

The immediate uncomfortable reaction from everyone else cracked me up.

    I cackled. That was outstanding.

Read one review focused on Don probably getting axed/in huge trouble with Lou after the changes. I didn't get that from the episode at all, especially with Pete on board with the changes. Anyone else see that one way or the other?

Really thought they stuck the landing in this one with the three of them at that table, after focusing on Don/Pete/Peggy's traditional nuclear family issues for parts.

The only thing better would have been a cut to Betty after the line "does any family look like this anymore?" then a slow pan to see the unhappy Bobby and Henry staring down at their food.

Peggy didn't tell Pete he had something on his face. She didn't tell him to wipe his face.

Don saw the ketchup and made a gesture, Pete struggled at first to understand what it meant, and when Peggy realized what was going on, she smiled and handed Pete the napkin.

The end was very well done and very on the nose, which is par for the course in Mad Men. Couldn't help notice how it reminded me of the last scene in the Sopranos a tiny bit.

I liked Bob's story and how it dovetailed with the idea of family which dominated the episode. Perhaps a two episode arc with Bob would have been better because it felt a tiny bit rushed.
